Ummm, I live in Tsukuba. It is a nice place with great nature and convinient environment. Tokyo is close, so if I start to miss big cities, I can always take the Tsukuba Express and go to the capital!
I love Tsukuba. It is scenic. I especially enjoy the scenery in autumn with trees having orange and red leaves. Awesome. I like the central bus station in Tsukuba. Very convenient as it has buses to airport and to various places in Tsukuba. I did not have chance to visit Mount Tsukuba. I tell myself I would definitely come again with my family.
Ibaraki is known as the most boring prefecture, and I was only there for a conference. If sightseeing I wouldn’t stay here for too long, but it does have a nice stress free feel about it - so a get away from Tokyo perhaps.
Tsukaba is science city and quite place for living. In here have many interesting things about scientifics. The best place for me is Norin-danshi road which have a lot of beautiful sakura tree ^_^ Moreover Ume-park at Tsukuba san, please visit there if you have time.
In downtown(R&D and schools area) Tsukuba, streets and buildings look like ones of USA cities. Actually, 6 lanes streets or a big facility per a quatre mile lot can not be seen any other cities in Japan. Thus, you can transport yourself by your own car easily, also, there are many parking lots whose fares are reasonable. To Tsukuba, from Tokyo(Akihabara, electric avenue), TX: Tsukuba Express train is uncoperablly useful with its high speed, frequent services, low price and convenient location of stations both in Tokyo and Tsukuba. Tsukuba-san and Tsukuba Shrine nearby, are famous sightseeing spots to visit, where you can find good old Japanese tourism culture as well as conventional mountaneous religeon and grand view of Kanto plain all over.
Although this is a town that mainly centres around business and the university there's plenty to do in Tsukuba. There are great dining options across the city and for tourists go visit Mt Tsukuba - don't miss the impressive shrine at the base of the cable car and visit the authentic onsen (hot baths) near the base of the mountain. For the more adventurous start our walk up Mt Tsukuba along the old Hojo Rd and get a real feel for the area. There is cycle rental in town (cycle out to the rice fields, or go hunting for the shrines that dot the city). Try rock climbing at the awesome Monkey Magic climbing gym in the Q'T centre or just wander around town and see what you discover. The Tsukuba Express train line makes accessing Tokyo easy, Asakasa is only about 45 minutes (1140 yen one way). Ichinaru is the recommendation for eating near the station - but it's hard to find (it's in a small arcade just outside the Tsukuba Frontier hotel) however there are plenty of great, authentic Japanese restaurants and some western options too. There are direct buses from Narita and Haneda airports, although you can also get there via train.
