It's a nice island but there's a lot of development these days. Sadly, because this is SE Asia and almost everyone throws their trash on the ground or in the river, it washes up on the beaches. The whole of Koh Rong is covered with plastic. On the beaches, it can be several inches thick. That's just the reality of life in Asia now. The resorts mostly clean the area in front of their property, but if you walk 2 minutes away, it's all plastic. The island is a nice chill place to escape to. However, if you want something 10x better, just go anywhere in Thailand - less plastic, less development, better food, more culture, more animals, etc.
Our site was on long beach, the third ferry stop on the island. The walk in the mangrove on a wood passerelle is really beautiful. The place is ideal for long morning walks on the white sand. Not many tourists on Long Beach. They tend to stay on the busiest side of the island.
It was not very busy on long set beach. the lack of currency exchange made travelling around the island difficult. This became a problem because the dollars we had were a little worn and nobody would accept them. A couple offered to give US dollars and we could transfer into their account on our final day, by then we had decided it was best to relax.
We only stayed in our resort, as there was nothing else really available except to take other, rather expensive, trips around the island by boat. The road out was a real dirt track and mostly impassable. However, being required to stay on our "private" beach was no hardship, as the experience was quiet, safe, friendly and relaxing.
Carefully build your journey. Always have a margin of time. Our ferry was late for 40 minutes. Due to the unrest at sea, you may be taken from the island not to Serendipity Pier, but to the cargo port. You will only find out about this upon arrival. I had to spend extra time and money to get to our bus.
Gorgeous beaches, visited 4K, Long Beach and Sok San. Had to walk for an hour on Long Beach before finding a beer!! Fun scooter ride there but would recommend getting them to take you further to Sok San. The island is quiet at the moment apparently but you can still here the party at Police Beach! Worth braving Sihanoukville for the 45 minute ferry journey for white sands and turquoise seas.
Koh Rong Island
There was a warm welcome and continued friendly service from the owners and staff here at this slice of Cambodian island paradise. The beach location is exceptional and the white sand beach, and clear, shallow waters were idyllic. Being west facing, the sunsets are special, too. Compared to many locations on the island, it was far better value for money, and you can scooter to a “high end” resort easily enough to enjoy a best-of-both experience.
Koh Rong Island
Best location and the reception was super helpful with organizing the shuttle back with the booked ferry-company as well as early Checkout. Really nice was also the free shuttle ferry to the mainpier. The hotel reacted really promply to problems with the room and offered a change, not a big deal and easy handling! Appreciated a lot!
Koh Rong Island
This is the best place on Koh Rong. It's run by a super friendly family who are very welcoming and love to tell stories about the island. It's right on one of the best beaches in Cambodia too. As a massive bonus, it has the best library I've seen in Asia - thousands of old books to read while you sit on the beach.
The hotel is on Koh Rong's best stretch of shoreline. The beach is very nice here, wide and spacious and kept clean by the staff. Free toys (balls, frisbees) and SUP boards to use. The rooms were very comfortable; great outdoor showers. The pool, though small, is a nice alternative to swimming in the sea.
Koh Rong Island
The best place of Koh Rong. Beautiful hotel, restaurant and bungalows, white clean paradise beach and lovely stuff, relaxing, close to beach restaurants and the local community + possibilities to rent scooter, go snorkelling or discover nature. We had a great time!
Amazing facilities, from the common areas to the private bungalow. the staff is so welcoming and friendly and Sarah and everyone is willing to help with anything . Also the food is the best of the island by far. Best place to stay at Koh Rong
