The cave/river boat tour is an easy afternoon activity and worth the effort to get to Kong Lor. It's not a bad idea to allocate an extra day or two just to unwind in this remote village. Bring a book and chill.

The main reason for this visit is the fabulous Kong Lor cave, which is not the most spectacular we have seen on our travels, but is unique for the method of access and it was a very impressive experience. That said the area is also very charming and for anyone who has visited Sapa, it might be more like the Sapa of 5 -10 years ago. There is very little plastic litter and no high rise, unsympathetic, buildings so the beauty of the area is maintained. The swim in the river was very welcome as well and it was a very short walk from our hotel. There are also a few eating establishments so if you stayed for three days you should have enough variety to keep you going. A good place to read a book and watch the serene world go by .
