Thambu illam was one of my favourite stays in Sri Lanka! I felt at home and comfortable. The staff were amazing including the night time security, Joseph, who kept us company and shared his story while we stayed up past midnight. Mathu the manager checked in with us when we didn’t arrive on time for our booking and he responded quickly to messages. The supervisor was exceptionally helpful and got us almost anything we requested for our meals. Thambu illam brings you a feeling of being in your ancestral home and the little details they paid attention makes it even magical. We will definitely come back here to stay with our family on our next trip.

Excellent Hospitality!! Iresha & Dishtha made our stay more lovable… kudos to whole team for maintaining the property to its best!!! We had a wonderful experience at The Thinnai Hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed cold facial towels, juice and attentive service. The absolute best hotel by far I have stayed at for the last 7 weeks here in Sri Lanka. We treated ourselves and stayed in the lovely Northgate steps from train station. The rooms were huge, modern super clean with everything you need. Service was exceptional! A shout out to our amazing room service person: Kajinthiran, who made our room perfect everyday. I love his many towel animals he made for us. Another shout out to Kajeepan who attended to our needs at the bar/restaurant. The managers were very friendly always making sure we were happy. One of the manager even tried to arrange a cooking demo for me with the chef at the hotel restaurant. The food at the hotel restaurant was most delicious too. We also loved the fact that it was close to another bar and other great restaurants nearby. It was worth every penny!

It is a nice and quiet modern hotel with good facilities. The room was clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed and pillows. There is a fridge in the room and and tea making facilities in the lounge area outside the room. We were given two small bottles of water on arrival. The shower works well with good hot water, once you get it adjusted properly. There is a shower screen too, but like all bathrooms in Sri Lanka the bathroom floor still gets wet. The air conditioner works well and the room also has a large ceiling fan. The hotel is well located just 1.6 kilometers from Jaffna Fort and about a kilometre from the rooftop bar at the Jaffna Jetwing Hotel. Breakfast was not included but is available, we did not have breakfast at the hotel. All in all a good place to stay.
