The view from the hotel was the best I had during my whole trip in Sri Lanka. Not only each room has a sea view, but also watching the sunset from the Rooftop, while swimming in the pool and sipping a cocktail is amazing. The Hotel-Manager is super nice and knows all his guests by name and is willing to fulfill all wishes. As my flight was very early in the morning, I could use the hotel facilities after checking out and they even organized me a room to take a shower and prepare myself for the flight home. Also their are helping you to book a Taxi or Tuk Tuk. I really loved my short stay here and will definitely come back.

Great place! It is very picturesque with a beautiful seashore and amazing sunsets! The beach is highly convenient since you can easily find a restaurant with multiple delisious dishes and a tent to hide from the sun. You can stay the whole day on the beach just drinking coconuts, enjoying tasty seafood rice, and listening to the sounds of the ocean. Unawatuna has a great location: it takes about 2 hours by taxi from the airport, which is closer than other seaside towns. I definitely recommend staying here!
There is this amazing beach restaurant near the Araliya beach resort. We do not know the name but it has a surfing board as a sign which says "taste of sri lanka" it also says inside they have BBQ they have a big BBQ sign inside. It is near B's place (hotel) maybe it is the restaurant down there. Anyway that is the best restaurant in the unawatuna beach. I suggest you do not miss it. They have really good service, in contrast to all the other restaurants around it. There is a juice bar / fruit selling shop. if you order juices they will take you to the back garden which is really beautiful. You can sit there and enjoy the beautiful sri lankan garden with the delicious fresh juice in your hand. it is in yaddehimulla rd.
1. The people who are super helpful even random strangers who help guide you, the coconut sellers and the staff at the property. 2. The beaches are amazing if you go to the right one - for crowds go to Unawatuna Beach, for mystery go to Jungle Beach and for seclusion and pristine waters, go to Thalpe Beach 3. Definitely rent a scooty or a bike - walking is fine if you're a fitness addict but even for the fittest, walking everywhere in the scorching heat is a punishment. 4. Supermarkets don't carry a lot of products - that could be due to current economic situation in Sri Lanka but there is hardly any choice. 5. Food is alright if you go to the right restaurant - check out restaurants in Galle Dutch Fort for good food or Kingfisher restaurant for good food or Roti shop for cheap and delicious meals. AVOID ORANGE BEACH KITCHEN at all costs- I am not saying this lightly - food and ambiance both were dreadful there. Plus, for prawn dishes ask in any restaurant if they peel it first before ordering. In Sri Lanka, Prawns come with the peel, even in fried rice which is horrible.
Lovely beach, good facilities nearby, lots of restaurants right on the beach, does get quiet fairly early (10pm or so), but that suits some people anyway. Close to Galle and lots of other places to visit on the South coast.
When you arrive at Unawatuna you can't help but relax. nice golden sand plenty of sunbeds drinks snacks meals anytime any place. Wonderful people. No ques not a large place but all you need. The old British Fort at Gall is 15 min tut tut drive well worth 1/2 day looking round. Coggola Lake and surrounding area a good full day. Hire a boat the driver will introduce you to local monkeys and sometimes you may see the crocs massive monitor lizards. Some of the islands are inhabited 30 minutes away. Visit a tea plantation . To hire a tut tut and driver for1/2 day £15.Loads to see if you want. This was my 6th visit Moonstone mine and jewelry making a endless list.
Unawatuna and the surrounding area either side are just beautiful. Full of so much to see - be it wildlife or historical sites. So much choice for eating and socialising. Friendly, welcoming people who are great hosts. Awesome beaches with choices of what you want to do - snorkelling, diving, turtle watching, surfing, or just bobbing around in warm waves. Try to make sure you get a massage too, they've got some great places with very good practitioners too.
Unawatuna
Upon arrival we were greeted by the warm and welcoming hotel staff who took excellent care of us during our stay. The place is immaculate with lovely, clean, spacious rooms and a poolside area to relax by when not visiting nearby Galle or the beaches. The breakfast is worth the stay alone and pushed this place into the top spots for accomodation during our stay in Sri Lanka I would highly recommend staying at Abundia and getting to meet the team working here. An absolute please and the best way to round out our trip. Thank you!
It is a safe island in the busy, bustling Sri Lankan beach Unawatuna. Hillside location, but a lovely tuk-tuk service taking you up for free of charge. Lovely Lady from Switzerland runs this gem. We stayed in a bungallow, it was nice sitting on the balcony, swimming in the pool, having a nice shower, sleeping in the comfy bed. The breakfast was very good in size and taste also. This is a place what you should not miss when in Unawatuna. Thanks for the hospitality and the nice days we spent with you in Panorama!
Unawatuna
The hotel is very nice and has such a beautiful garden with plants which are described with little signs so that you can learn about its benefits. There is also a little swing which is so much fun :) The people are so nice, especially the employee at the reception, his name was Sunil, was so kind and funny! We got a spacious room with a very big balcony which was right over the reception. It is very near the main shopping street of Unawatuna which leads directly to the beach.
The hotel is in lovely location with a private beach. You can walk to Jungle Beach and Unawatuna. A fair hike but possible. We went into Galle Fort most nights for dinner. Galle Fort is the most charming place we found in Sri Lanka with lovely restaurants and bars. We also went for a magical swim with the Turtles at Turtle Beach. Staff are lovely and helpful. Meals were good. Yoga/stretch classes were an excellent way to start the day.
Unawatuna
The location is amazing - just a 2 minute walk to a fabulous, often private beach. The beach is perfect for swimming when it's calm - with a reef that almost creates a shallow natural swimming pool. It's also located just 10-15 mins between Unawatuna and Ahangama, so you can easily explore those towns, both of which have lots restaurant options. The hotel itself is very comfortable, and Kasun is a very kind and helpful host.
Interior is great. Rooms are big. We booked the cheapest room, but staff provide us better room with ocean view. Restaurant in hotel is very tasty. Quite place with no noise. Rooms are cleaned twice a day. Staff is very friendly and help us with transfer and other things. We have stayed in several hotels in Sri Lanka, but this one is the best. Clean swimming pool. Large balcony. The Mihiripenna beach is in 5 minutes.
Unawatuna
The place and mainly Dush with Latha who are taking care of this gorgeous place are the best bonus of this perfect Thalpe Bungalows and our holiday! We wish we could bring this people with us home as they become part of our family. They provide great service, they gave us many useful information and of course tasty food. Sri Lanka and the owners must be happy for people like Dush and Latha.
This hotel was sensational. The wildlife you see is incredible. Iguanas walking around and monkeys. The comfiest pillows and the friendliest staff. The head chef was amazing and super friendly and made me the best prawn curry I have had in Sri Lanka. He went out his way to make us traditional Sri Lankan breakfast. It is very safe and the little extras made our stay very special.
location was really great. Of course it’s a bit far from the city center, but that is the point of this hotel. It’s really in the jungle when you really feel peaceful and tranquil. you really wake up every morning sounds of the jungle. The room had a very nice balcony with two great chairs for relaxing in the evening right next to the tree tops. Kind of a cool experience.
The villa was lovely. It has a great view of the sunset everyday. The water is right on the patio area of the villa. There’s always tuk tuks available out front of the hotel for ease of travel around Unawatuna. The staff was very friendly and the free breakfast was delicious. They also serve food in the evenings which is a great way to enjoy the sunset. Highly recommend!
Unawatuna
Fab location, right at the top of the Main Street in Unawatuna and about 8/9 minutes from the beach. Also above a coffee shop that served some of the best coffee I had on my trip to Sri Lanka! Very clean and spacious rooms with big balcony’s and nice bathrooms. The staff were so kind and welcoming and did all our washing for very cheap. Great hotel.
The property of the hotel is breathtakingly beautiful. The location was at a central point. There is a Cargills about 500m away, and an excellent eating place Lavazza just a few metres away in the opposite direction. The distance to the Unawatuna beach is also about 650m and within walking distance Very helpful staff. The breakfasts served were lovely.
the staff is great. it’s run by a family and the Mom will assure you have a breat breakfast. they change it everyday and had the sri lankan option. she knew we liked roti so she made us some. she treated us like her own kids. the location is great its pretty quiet. loved the refreshing pool and the balcony view
Unawatuna
It is a really great hotel in terms of restaurants, food (unless you are not into spicy Sri Lankan cuisine, because there is almost nothing international available except for the breakfast), facilities, and staff. Staff at the restaurants, in the lobby, by the pool, and the beach are amazing.
The hotel was pleasure to stay in! The pool is wonderful, with great views. Our room was beyond fantastic, loved how helpful all the staff were. Whenever minor problems occurred staffed were incredibly polite ,helpful and efficient. Would return to Unawatuna again just to stay here.
Unawatuna
It was clean, spacious and well located. The family who run the place are friendly and helpful. Their little girl is super cute! The breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we had during our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. Great eggs! Vila Unawatuna was basic but great value for money.
Our room was very spacious and the view of the ocean from the balcony was incredible, definitely worth paying extra for. The pool area and garden was nice. Food was excellent, especially the Sri Lankan curry, the portion was massive as well.
Very cozy, clean room, beautiful sea view, beach at the exit of the hotel, delicious food, one of the best hotels in Unawatuna
The hotel was nice and modern. Good location and close to Food City. Can walk to the beach.
The staff is amazing. The vibe of the place is brilliant. There is limited number of rooms and I wasn't surprised that it is usually booked. As soon as you enter the hotel/resort you start feeling good about your decision to book it. Evening live performances are the cherry on the top.
