The riad we stayed at was within the old walls of the medina. The area was a delight and was kept clean by a population who obviously took pride in where they lived. There were many old narrow (safe) streets to explore in the medina with a lot of shops to buy presents from. The proprietors were never 'pushy' and a good price could always be had with a bit of bargaining. Outside of the medina was the usual hustle and bustle of an Arab town seemingly run with the usual disorganised chaos of most Arab towns we've visited around the world. It is a holiday destination that caters for the local Rabat/Tangier crowd. The town is expanding not dissimilar to Spain and S France a couple of decades ago. The town beach is OK, but the gems are a 30 taxi ride away. The food along the main section is excellent and cheap. Very few serve alcohol but there is an off licence if you can find it. I have been many many times in the last 37 years and it never fails to impress, plenty to do for a long weekend, easily accessible from Tangiers by train or taxi (approx 200mdh), very safe, lovely people, new marina being built , probably best to stay outside the marina as it might be noisy at night, plenty of affordable accommodation in the area, great choice of eateries, shops and hammams, car not necessaryGuest review bymandySpain - 8.0

It is a quiet little town with a history of Portuguese occupation. The Medina is small and clean and many artists live here. There is a mural festival every year. Plenty of fish restaurants and a market street. Not a party town.Guest review bySallyUnited States

The complex is very safe with security on the gate. The location wasn’t ideal as it was about 3km distance from the centre of Asilah however it is safe to walk and then easy to take a taxi back. The kitchen was well-equipped and we enjoyed the living room spaciousness and the comfort of the terrace.
