Marrakech can feel chaotic at first, especially in the old town where you meet all kinds of street vendors and the usual small hustlers. But overall, both the city and the medina felt safe and surprisingly welcoming. The city goes quiet around midnight, which is great if you’re not into loud nightlife or drinking. There’s no special attitude toward non-locals — tourists are treated with calculated respect, and even the hustlers try to avoid real trouble. Reputation matters here. The city is alive, real, and not pretending to be something it isn’t. It’s tourist-oriented, but locals actually live and work here, so you can fully experience Moroccan culture. The best food we had was fish — all the fancy spots failed to impress, while local places were the winners. We even took home a tea set after falling in love with their tea culture. There’s plenty of trade, sometimes with confusing prices, and transport is the only thing that can really stress you out. If you rent a car, get full coverage — no question about it.

I travelled solo, I am a 39year old female from Ireland.

I travelled solo, I am a 39year old female from Ireland. Yes I was nervous, but I never had any issues-everyone I met was very friendly and helpful. I even ended up having lunch with a local lady who is moving back from France, we had alot in common and she ended up showing me real Morocco for the weekend, and we will now be friends for life. I am so lucky and grateful I had such a wonderful experience.

It was our first trip to Marrakech and for the first 2 days it felt like full on assault of the senses. So busy. The sights, colours, smells, food, heat, sounds and hustle and bustle of it. It felt really jarring to begin with.. but once we settled in it was such a fantastic place to enjoy. Beware of people taking you to the Berber market or the tannery- Avoid, it's a scam. Use getyourguide for some really excellent experiences- Hot air balloon, camel rides, cookery classes. Beware of city tours that involove a visit to the local herbalist store.. it looks great but it's overpriced! At first you have no idea the worth or price of things, we used the Ensemble Artisanal where they have set prices. It gives you an idea of the general prices of things before you start your own bargaining. Look at loads of things before buying.. the quality varies massively! and dont forget to just walk away if someone quoted too high, its all part of the experience but it can get very wareing after a while

The Raid was great, the market was very busy not made better by motor bikes going up and down the small alleys. The souk was a scam and would not recommend, felt very intimidated by pushy sales man and insecure not a place to visit on your own. The food was hit and miss but over all good for the price. The tours where good as was the quad bikes and camel ride. Over all it was a good experience, come with a open mind but be vigil when in the market it is so easy to get lost. look for markers so you can work out your route. Always barter and have fun

Don’t buy from the souks nearest to the Jamaa el Fna, they are extortionate prices, also quite a lot of hard sell. Walk further away where prices and haggling are more fair for both buyer and seller. Same with the restaurants, we found the further away from Jemaa, the better value and quality food available. Go to palaces and Ben Youssef etc as early as possible before the crowds build up. Good day trip out to the Atlas Mountains, worth doing if you like hiking a bit and wear good footwear.

A beautiful city.

A beautiful city. Personally I found it a bit too hectic and busy after a few days, but definitely a site worth visiting, culturally speaking. Prices vary enormously between local canteens and tourist-focused restaurants. If you are on a budget and want to drink wine, check prices carefully before you order as wine can easily cost twice the amount of the food. Shorts and sleeveless shirts were more common than I had anticipated, even during November, which is a sign of tolerance. I found the locals very respectful and accommodating of tourists. Please respect their culture though! (I saw a very small number of tourist a bit too provoking and slightly out of tune with the general behaviour, but that was a very small minority).

Breakfast was delicious, quite simple but really good quality. All the staff at the Riad were really friendly, helpful and quiet. The location is fantastic in the heart of the Medina, very close to a square with good restaurants, about a 10 minute walk from the main square but it was nice to leave the bustle of the main square behind and return to our peaceful, clean, cool and calm home from home. Highly recommend for those that like the simple things in life rather than opulent 5 star large hotels.

Terrible hotel - there is no way it is 5 star, is 3 star at best. Reception staff were rude and the hotel room was dirty, as were the common areas like hallways. The hotel checked us in, gave us the keycard to a room which hadn’t been cleaned from the previous guest. Was disgusting and they were not apologetic. Don’t stay here

Location and staff are both great. Our air con didn't work but the staff did sort it out. Came as a surprise not to have windows or patio especially as it is supposedly 5 star hotel but then it is in centre of the old town so having no windows meant it was quiet.
