Located in Chaungtha, Hill Garden Hotel is surrounded by greenery. It offers cosy bungalows, a 24-hour front desk and free parking. Nicely placed away from the town, but close enough to walk in. The wooden huts are well maintained, the bed was comfy. Daily you had green tea and a couple bottles of water brought to the hut in the morning and on a night time the staff came and refreshed the mosquito repellent essence burner and sprayed the rooms. The staff were relaxed but always helpful, assisting where required fairly promptly most of the time. The breakfast has a variety to choose from but we liked their pancakes we just stuck with them. Meals were a respectable price and a good selection to choose from.

Situated in Ngwesaung, 450 metres from Ngwesaung Beach, Dream House Guest House & Restaurant features accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking, a bar and a shared lounge. This is a countryside accommodation, in a rural area which you'll reach after a daunting 6-7-hour bus ride from Yangon over bumpy roads and winding hills. When you get off the bus, you'll be solicited by tuk-tuk drivers with offers to take you to the hotel, but you only really need to walk back up the hill a minute or two to find the Dreamhouse on your left. If you're worried about how to get back to Yangon (because you found there was no way to book a bus back when you were booking the bus online to go to Ngwe Saung beach), no worries: Michael, the owner, can sell you a bus ticket back to Yangon that'll pick you up from the hotel Dreamhouse can offer you motorcycles and bicycles. A motorcycle was 8,000 Kyat for an entire day (that's only about $5). They can also arrange fishing and snorkeling excursions. The hotel room building is two floors. The rooms on the bottom level have red brick walls between them, and the floors of the rooms above are wood. We do not know whether the rooms on the upper level have brick or wood walls. When you look at the hotel photos, it might appear that the beds are bamboo or rattan: They are not. The beds are normal mattresses that are quite comfortable. They have tan blankets covering them. This is a "no frills" hotel. You don't get toiletries, aside from bathroom tissue and towels. You don't get hot water in the shower. You don't get air conditioning (in January, this is not a problem, as the powerful wall-mounted oscillating fans will keep you more than cool). Others complain that there are rolling power outages, but I expect that this happens more during the summer time when the area's electrical grid is overwhelmed. There wasn't any loss of power when we stayed, and the WiFi was reliable. Remember: you're paying only $10 a night. I saw criticisms here about the food taking too long. Well, there is only one lovely woman cooking FANTASTIC food all day along for everyone.
