Living in a large city escaping to Kalaw is always a much needed break from the hustle and bustle. The fresh air and surrounding pine trees make for excellent hikes in almost every direction. The local restaurants provide a diverse and delicious opportunity to explore many cuisines.

Wonderful stay in Kalaw - 2 single days trekking (18 and 22 km) organised by Sam'son agency (He is the son of "Sam family" and has his own office in the next perpendicular street close to the market). Ask him to contract the mountain guide called "Yumo" ...She is a so nice guide...Her english is outstanding...and she will explain all what you want to know. Thanks again Yumo for the wonderful time we (my wife and me -67 years old) spent with you in the mountains. !...(Hope you will read these lines)...

Nice little place for a 24 hour stop off on the way from Thazi to the Inle lake by train. Some nice cafes, a few places to have a beer, a Nepalese and Italian restaurant all made for a nice break from travel. Station area to town walkable in 20 minutes, further places need a motor bike taxi.. around 1000 MYR each way.

Enjoyable town, some highlights being the station, Sprouting Seeds and Red House restaurants, and the market. In danger of becoming a little over-developed on the fringes. Best to see the town as a base to explore the surrounding scenery

The weather was cool - perfect for walking. Kalaw town itself was not so interesting but the colonial houses and Kalaw residents' homes aroused our curiosity. It was however easy to get lost in the maze of roads.

Kalaw ist mostly visited as a starting point for treks to Inle Lake. But in my opinion it is absolutely worth to stay 2 nights at least. It‘s a relaxed place with wonderful people. A visit to green hill valley elephant camp (1 day) is an unforgettable experience!

It's a beautiful hotel, with lots of lovely places to sit and relax. It's really nice to sit near the tennis courts, where you can see all the trees and flowers. Because the hotel is old and traditional, the rooms are quite plain and basic, but they are comfortable. The bed was a good size and I had everything I needed. The breakfast was very good, with lots of choice. The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful, and helped me to sort out onward travel. The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the town.

This was a beautiful place to stay - it felt like home away from home. The breakfast is amazing and the staff and owner are so so helpful. The owner spent a few hours organising an internal flight for us and taxi. The hotel went above and beyond customer service.
