CroatiaWe stayed in "il Girna" from 29. April to 6. May 2025. and the best word to describe the apartment, Marsaskala and Malta itself is mesmerizing! To start from the apartment, it's a 60 meter square apartment (studio 1) with a fully equipped kitchen (there was also a coffee, various seasonings, oil, tee...left by the owner), the bed (king size bed plus sofa bed for two) was comfortable, big flat TV (there are sports channels!), and beautiful big balcony with Sea view (P.S. there was also a washing machine and air-conditioning). It's basically 5 minutes from the bus station to the whole of Malta! Marsaskala is a picturesque small town in the south part of Malta, it's a combination of traditional (it's quiet place with beautiful st. Thomas beach, the church of st. Anna served a holy mass multiple times every day, playgrounds, and beautiful hiking trails) and modern (various types of restaurants such as Thai, japanese, Turkish, Italian, fast food, and of course typical local cuisine). Luke, the owner, was super polite, and at the service all the time via booking massage. Check in is contactless, as the check out.

The bay area is lovely and full of cafes and eateries many...
The bay area is lovely and full of cafes and eateries many of which are reasonably priced. Walking round the harbour (right side as you face it from the main bus stop) there are a number of constructed salt pans designed to provide a home for sea life when the tide is out which was really interesting to see. A bit further along was a newly renovated fort, St Thomas Tower, which had an incredibly interesting history focusing on piracy and the corsairs!
The only downside to staying in Marsaskala was the extensive work being carried out on the harbour front itself which blocked the lovely view while sitting in the cafes.

If you are looking for a quiet area to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of Malta's more well-known tourist areas, Marsaskala is the ideal choice, being located 10-20 minutes by car from Birgu and Valletta.
In the harbour area there are numerous restaurants, bars and pastry shops where you can find both local and international dishes.

Marsakala is a lovely place.
Marsakala is a lovely place. The locals are so friendly and helpful. There is a regular bus services that can take you all over the island. There are plenty of bars and restaurants which offer traditional Maltese food if you wish to try, and also lots of other international cuisines, all of which were lovely.

Enough restaurants to choose. Really nice beaches and very safe circumstansies for a walk in the municipalitiy. Well equiepped shops, kind staff anywhere. Buses are clean and fast, we were satisfied with them.
Missing some cultural evenings (e.g. concerts) - our stay was at the end of September. But maybe at main time (June-August) they would be available, please check it.
Small town with a very good beaches, they makes us feel happy.

Quiet fishing bay with more locals than tourists. Water is super clean here and safe swimming straight off the rocks. Great beach bars with tasty food and fantastic happy hours. A fabulous array of super high quality restaurants (not cheap). TalFamija and Nargile Lounge were particularly good along with Legends for cocktails.

+ Very nice local buildings (old and new). The "Corsairs and Pirates" Museum in the St Thomas Tower ( and the tower itself) is a non-advertised hidden pearl of the island.
+ Small enough to walk around on foot
+ Close enough to a long list of "must see" places.
- There are better beach areas on Malta.

The apartment was very spacious, clean, the kitchen equipped with all necessities, large balcony. Main bedroom has its own bathroom and closet (this was great). Very good location – 3-4 shops within 5 min walking distance, 10 min walk to Marsaskala centre. Very quit location (end of April), great for family holiday. Matthew provided detailed information, late check in was not a problem…

A great find in Marsaskala. Apartment was very clean and well furnished. Location was fantastic, very quiet but within easy reach to the harbour with lovely bars, restaurants and cafes. Everything needed was there to hand. Close to bus stops and bus station to travel around Malta. Also plenty of convenience shops close by for a few bits and pieces.

The apartment is spacious with lots of windows at the front in the living area. The kitchen was large and well equipped and there are a couple of small markets close by. The walk around the waterfront to Marsaskala Harbour was very pleasant and in the other direction there are two places for swimming within walking distance.

Excellent location near the Marsaskala harbour, lots of cafes and shops nearby. Short walk to the bus stop to get into Valetta in 30-40 mins. The hosts Edmund and Elizabeth were very helpful. The apartment was clean, modern and in great condition. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

All the staff were lovely and extremely helpful. Everyone greeted you, and would fix any issue you had, went truly above and beyond. Room was great and had a great view of Marsaskala bay. Also loved the free little snacks by the main entrance!
