The language barrier can be significant and during July the weather is hot and very humid. It's best to stay in central Kuching, but that area is mostly pricey hotels. I found a few good restaurants and enjoyed Bako National Park, Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, and a river trip where we spotted crocodiles, monkeys and dolphins..

We paid a local taxi driver who we found through the grab taxi app a day rate to drive us to various places. He was so good that we saw some extra places that he suggested to us. We went to the Orangutan sanctuary and then the nearby crocodile farm and saw both species at feeding time - it was amazing. We also hired a tour guide to take us to the Bako national park where we saw the elusive and rare proboscis monkey as well as other creatures. The Sarawak historical village is also a must visit. Entrance is quite cheap for most places so don’t get trapped with extortionate prices through vendors. Some parks require a licensed tour guide. The Tarek Tea from Atmosferah and all their food was delicious. We went everyday.

What a great city!
What a great city! It is clean and calm and offers a varied and diverse food scene. Did you know that Kuching was recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2021? With Kuching's diverse cultural makeup, there is a lot to experience and learn about here. I found the citizens to be wonderfully welcoming. I suppose a little complaint that I have is that English is so widely-spoken here, I got very few opportunities to practice and improve upon what little Malay that I know. Let's call that a backhanded compliment, I guess. I have spent three weeks here and have not found myself bored at any moment. A couple of people (both from KL, I think) asked something like, "Is there enough to do there for three weeks?" Oh yeah there is. Especially if you also enjoy downtime and start exploring the diverse regions that are nearby. I really do love it here.

I like the relaxed vibe that is Kuching.
I like the relaxed vibe that is Kuching. Went for a wedding, and normally our stays in Kuching is just over the weekend, this time as it coincided with school holidays, we decided to do a whole week.
Driving is not a hassle, jams were not that bad. I enjoyed my long drives out to the Sarawak Cultural Village and the Matang Wildlife Centre (although please do check the weather before going to the wildlife centre, as it was closed to the public due to rains and we had to turn back).
The Borneo Cultures Museum is a must, especially if you have kids.
We also took the obligatory cat statue selfie shot on our last day in Kuching. Do drive around to look for proper parking when doing this.

Despite being a city its a slower pace of life.
Despite being a city its a slower pace of life. There is lots to explore but you need the time to do that.
Very affordable destination and one must explore the outskirts as well. We visited the Orang Utan sanctuary in Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and enjoyed that too.
Food...plenty of options and choices from traditional chinese to malay to some of the ethnic tribal food is available to any foodie out there.
Lots of greenery around the city making it a cooler destination with a natural feel to it.
Newly refurbished hotel - everything was in good condition and spotlessly clean. Rooms were comfortable, with spacious bathrooms and plenty of space to store our stuff. Friendly, helpful staff. The location's terrific - it's basically in the centre of Kuching, close to eating places, the Main Bazaar and Waterfront, so it's incredibly easy to walk everywhere.
For first-timer to Kuching Town, I can recommend this hotel as it is near to shopping bazaar and a lot of eateries nearby. If you like to try the best seafood, you can head to The Top restaurant as it was just nearby. Make sure you arrive before 630pm as it can get a bit crowded and quite hard to find a table. Food was cheap and good.
Our room package was without breakfast. This place is ideal for travellers without car as there is no designated parking. However, the location is very strategic and for its price. This hotel has the best I have experienced in Kuching. Lovely staff and clean functional rooms.
Excellent location in Kuching right on the waterfront. Staff were so helpful - we had an issue with one of our rooms and it was sorted right away. I would definitely recommend staying here.
