FAQs about hotels in Malacca

History and Culture in Equal Measure

Historic Melaka (or Malacca) is the capital of the Malaysian state of the same name, home to one of the country’s first sultanates. The replica of the sultan’s palace is one of the city’s top attractions.

The end of the sultanate came with the Portuguese conquest of Melaka in the 16th century. Reminders of this period include part of A Famosa fort, and there is also a fort built by the next settlers, the Dutch. Several Dutch churches also remain, including Christ Church with its pinkish façade.

Nowadays, Melaka is a melting pot of various cultures, and Chinese temples, such as wonderful Cheng Hoon Teng, sit happily alongside Hindu temples and mosques. The most spectacularly located of the latter is Masjid Selat (or Malacca Straits Mosque), on stilts above waters lapping an offshore island.

Many Melaka hotels on Booking.com are near the promenade lining the narrow city beach, and others are near more secluded beaches in the suburbs. The Melaka River splits the city into 2, and the further inland you travel along it, the more traditional the buildings become.

Just before the river’s first bend is Jonker Street, the heart of Chinatown and popular for its night markets, while a few miles to the north is Melaka Airport in the Batu Berendam district.

The whole vibe is super with plenty to see and do.

The whole vibe is super with plenty to see and do. The area beside the river is great, especially in the evening, and the Nyonya food is excellent. Jonker Walk is fascinating and the weekend night market is definitely worth visiting.

*Amazing vacation!*

*Amazing vacation!* The property was very clean, tidy, and beautifully designed. I truly enjoyed my stay in this unit and will definitely consider booking it again for my next trip to Melaka. The view from the unit was extraordinary — especially the river cruise! I strongly recommend this place for all types of travellers. There were four of us, and the owner thoughtfully provided two extra foldable beds along with a sofa bed, which made our stay even more comfortable. It really felt like home — super cozy and welcoming. I would give them a *10+ star rating* if I could! The owner also prepared a detailed PDF guide to help guests easily access the unit, from parking to the room — very clear and helpul

Melaka is a wonderful and historic city.

Melaka is a wonderful and historic city. Spending 2 or 3 days there is good, however you will only get to see the tourist aspect of the city. There is more to Melaka than the small tourist area. Try and take time to visit the restaurants, cafes and sites further afield. You may be pleasantly surprised.

A town with many things to do.

A town with many things to do. Visiting colonial buildings, Jonker's Street is filled with many good stuffs e.g. variety of Street food, local delights such as jam tarts, gula Melaka, nyonya kuih etc etc. If you are there in the month of Nov/Dec, do visit Portuguese Settlement for the wonderful Christmas decorations that the locals put up in their houses and not forgetting the wonderful food that you can also enjoy at the settlement.

We found the people exceptionally friendly and helpful.

We found the people exceptionally friendly and helpful. The many tourist attractions are well-maintained, really interesting and all within easy walking distance. The city is known for its delicious food and coffee and does not disappoint! The Grab taxi service here is very reasonable, but you need to be sensible and get yourself out of the busy traffic jammed areas to meet your Grab, or you will lose precious time unnecessarily. Personally, I LOVE the contrasts of well-maintained vs derelict buildings, the vibrant colours of the buildings along the river, the busy vibe of the market and the music in the background while enjoying dinner in a beautifully decorated street. It is wonderful to see so many cats around - some sterilised and well-loved and others, sadly not. I would love for animal rights people to catch the exotic pet trader at the Jonker Street night market....

Malacca will always be a famous and favourite place to visit and mostly during weekends and public holidays. I always bring my family on weekdays instead on the weekend to avoid the heavy traffic jams. The accommodation also excellent and always prefer to stay in apartment hotel.

The hotel was cheap and located near the Ayer Keroh Toll Station. This hotel was intended as a stopover on a road trip up North while avoiding a drive all the way into Malacca City, hence it met the expectations. The hotel breakfast was also quite decent considering the price we paid.

For a new hotel, it's great! Will definitely repeat here again if I ever come to Malacca again. For an affordable price, you get to experience comfort and a level of luxury. Although, the breakfast menu needs to have more variety.
