Groningen is a great town, feels very safe and everything you would like to see is at a walkable distance. I may be prejudiced as I have lived there before, but it's even more pedestrian friendly than it already was.
Nice city center to walk around. Good place to spend couple of days. Despite on many bicycles crossing everywhere, a lot of young people, Groningen center gives me a sense of tranquillity. Maybe it is due to absence of car/moto noise around.
A beautiful and vibrant city . A great balance between old and the modern symbolised by Martini Tower and the Forum sitting side by side. Walking around is very easy and it's great to see so few cars. Be wary of bicycle riders though. Wide selection of restaurants available though be aware that it would be difficult to find a kitchen open after 9 pm.
Groningen is a beautiful city, built beautiful in the same timeperiod as Amsterdam. It's less touristy, unfortunately, the city council has been Post-Modernising the architecture in an attempt to deal a crucial blow to the 'pittoresque-ness' of the place. This is not Warsaw, which got re-built after being blown to smithereens after WW2 this is Groningen, with its many style-corrupting building permits for the last 70 years (or since World War 2). The Vindicat Building of prior to WW2 had black collumns, the Naberpassage after WW2 was a mastodont of mediocrity that's recently been replaced by a spaceship or just a warehouse-type-building-housing a library -depending who you ask. Visit: Bourtanghe (fortrest on the eastern border, Pittoresque! Visit 'Het Pannekoekenschip' Visit : 'De Vismarkt' (spices, fish, vegetables free dumpsterdiving upon market- closingtime). Visit: the Cinema's (Pathe and Forum Images in the Groninger Forum structure). Visit: the Kanton-Groningen (courthouse). Visit: the Cityhall. Visit: the University, the old building that is. Visit: the many café's, bistro's, but keep your cost of living in check by visiting the 'Aldi'mart to the south of the centre and the Nazzar to the north of the centre. Visit: the Noorder Plantsoen for a quiet walk. Visit: Het Stadspark for one closer to a highway. Visit: Paterswoldse Meer (Eelde Paterswolde / Hoornse meer (same lake but on the Groningen Side. Now this is relevant: the restaurants on the south side of the 'Paterswoldse Meer' are mutch better than the one on the north, south though, not south-west. Visit: Zuid-Westhoek to rent a boat for a boatride over the like. Visit Zuidlaardermeer! (cheaper boat rent, lesser restaurants.
Beautiful and cosy city, not too big and not too small. Lively and plenty of bars and cafes. Slightly expensive, but to have a good time still won't break your wallet. Highly recommend for a relaxing trip including strolls along the canal, through the narrow street cities and exploring bars with great music and quirky interior. My friend said it felt like Amsterdam, just a lot more charming, clean and less touristy!
An amazing, vibrant city. Love that so many people - young and old - cycle but the 2 taxis I took while in Groningen were so impatient with cyclists and complained about them. Such a pity as part of the charm about Groningen is how easy it is to get around by bike.
I really enjoyed my stay. The room was clean, the shower worked well and housekeeping cleaned the room on every day of the stay. The girl that helped me check in was very nice and was helpful with my special request for the check out. There were bus stations only a few minutes away from the location, as well as a supermarket that was open till 22. The city center was also at a convenient walking distance from the hotel. The area felt safe and was very quiet as well.
The hotel is located in the heart of the city - only 1 min walk to University of Groningen and 5 min walk from the Aa Kerk. The room is bright and clean, you have anything you need to make a cup of coffee or tea in your room, if you run out of something, hotel staff will always help you. Another gratitude to the staff for their help and open-mindness. I will definitely stay here one more time!
Great place for a short stay in the middle of the city of Groningen. A nice clean room with a comfortable bed. All you except from a professional hotel. Too bad I was not able to sit down at the cafe for breakfast. But the solution of picking my breakfast and taking it upstairs is perfect. Hope to be back someday to enjoy the other services this hotel has to offer.
Groningen
At Pension Tivoli, you sit front row for a dime, as the Dutch saying goes. You can have your own room with your own shower for € 55 per night, smack in the middle of the old city centre of Groningen. You have a fridge, so you can store your own food to save money, and there is a table and a chair to work on. I mean – what is there not to like?
The location is close to both the city center and the train station. There was rich breakfast, including fresh orange juice and espresso The public area of the hotel has interesting outfit in Dutch style. The only inconvenience I met was the smallish bathroom, but this seems to be norm in Netherlands. On overall it is a nice and cozy hotel.
Groningen
Absolutely recommended! My stay in Groningen was physically and emotionally eghsausting and The Groningen Hotel place helped very much with its position in town. Non the less, the hosts showed themselves not only kind, but very human and willing to help. So, thank you, people, hope to see you again!!!
Conveniently located in Groningen city centre, 10-15 minutes easy walk from the station, staff were extra friendly and helpful, free tea and coffee in reception is a nice touch. Extra comfy bed, nice room service, great to have nespresso machine in room.
Friendly staff, superb location, huge jacuzzi, very comfortable bed. Could get a bit loud as it's on really busy street, my windows faced the street and rowdy bar goers were a bit too much, however hotel is great. Will definetely stay here again.
I walked past this hotel many times, as I used to live in Groningen, but this is the first time I stayed here. The room was large and clean. Big table as well, great for doing work
Nice room in a beautiful building at a great location. The hotel is right in the centre and the room is spacious. There is coffee and tea and the bathroom and shower are great!
The friendly and helpful staff and the great suggestions received to enjoy our stay. Hotel nicely located near city center and major locations, bars and restaurants.
The premises were very clean and the measures against Covid-19 were well deployed and organised. It is very close to the city centre of Groningen.
