Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colorful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.
For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.
The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 1,000 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.
Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping center are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural attractions include many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.
Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

Bergen exceeded my expectations.
Bergen exceeded my expectations. Very interesting architecture and nature. Bryggen of course. The surroundings with the mountains right next to the city.
You can buy a return ticket to Ulriken mountain to from the city center for around 500 NOK including bus and cable car, or you can take bus no 12 to Montana busstop and walk from there, if you want to save money.

A very beautiful city surrounded by water and mountains.
A very beautiful city surrounded by water and mountains. Almost 300K people. Everyone we encountered was friendly and spoke good English. Excellent public work: streets, roads, tunnels. Very clean city. 4-year-old modern and clean airport. The city is also the departure point for boat rides through many fjords. Visit Oleana knit clothing shop opposite the fish market; their beautiful products are made locally. A lot of seafood restaurants. Visit of the Bryggen shopping district ,and the Mt. Floyen (Floyfjellet) which is accessible via a modern funicular, are a must.

Proper tourist destination in the centre of Bergen and rightly so. Excellent train, tram and bus services to access the mountains and fjords. Try getting a table at Bryggen Tracteursted for a selection of fish dishes.

We are driving up the west coast of Norway, and we stopped for 3 days in Bergen. Bergen is extremely challenging to drive in, parking and toll roads can empty your wallet! Norwegian cities in general are not driving friendly, hard to find street names, directional signs etc. The roads are excellent, but there are 1200 plus tunnels (short to as long as 15 miles long) and you are electronically charged by your license plate. We are clueless to what our final bill will be as no price is listed and there are no alternate routes. Bergen is a popular cruise ship destination hence the town, especially around the harbor, is packed with tourists. The first day it rained as it often does in July so the view at the top after our funicular ride up was quite fogged in. However, if you stay a while the fog will lift and you can see the city and get some good photos. We had one day of glorious sunshine, so we drove to the Botanical Gardens which was well worth the trip. It's a working garden for university students. It's free. Try to stay in Bergen city center as it is hard to get around and parking is horrendous. We choose Moxy Bergen and it was not a good choice, too far from all the activities and the staff were surly and dismissive. Since I love fish I was really disappointed in not finding a reasonably priced fish restaurant.

We stayed in Bergen 4 nights.
We stayed in Bergen 4 nights. We did the Norway in a Nutshell tour via Nairoy and Aurlands fjords to Flam, which is highly recommended. We should have stayed another day. We only used public transport but think that an alternative might be to rent a car and make Bergen the base to stay for up to a week, from where to make daily excursions. The fish market was excellent, serving the best fish we ever tasted. Bergen itself is a beautiful town. We think 4 days should be a minimum stay but can be extended to a week as there are so much to do. It is a wonderful part of Norway.
The breakfast exceeded all expectations. It was by far the best selection I have ever had in all my 75 years. i've been a Hiltonhonors member for decades and travelled all over the world in good hotels and this breakfast was fantastic
The location is good, We've been to Bergen many times and this Clarion Hotel is very well placed ( there are several Clarion Hotels in the area. i have only stayed in this one, near the Briggen and the fish market)
The staff were very responsive to requests.
Fantastic boutique hotel opposite the tourist info centre and fish market. Wonderful room with view of the mountain and everything in front, the water, boats, people and the colourful houses Bergen is famed for.
The best hotel shower we’ve ever experienced, I know this sounds odd but it matters!
Very comfortable bed, big TV, barely there to watch it.
Breakfast was expansive, fresh and truly delicious. Staff were delightful and our whole experience was great. Absolutely loved it.
Location was pretty good, only 15 minutes from the old town and 10 minutes to the harbour and city centre. close to the art galleries, train and bus stations. Reasonably priced for Bergen and Norway generally. Clean, quiet, and recently updated rooms. Self checking and check out.
Perfect location, you can walk to most of the attractions in Bergen. The bathroom floors are heated and the showers are quite nice. I'd say it's a fairly good accommodation for the price you pay ,specially considering it's Norway.
Phantastic ! Wonderful room, huge luxury bathroom, a top mattress, beautiful deco. A very special boutique hotel in a historic building.
The staff comes with a smile and the location cannot be more central. Highly recommended.
