FAQs about hotels in Bergen

Picture-Postcard Norway

Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colorful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.

For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.

The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 1,000 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.

Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping center are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural attractions include many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.

Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

I love this town because of this is my birthplace an my kids as well. There is much to do as a turist i think, but me and my soon to be husband went here so we could get on the right mindset again, after a difficult thing that happened in our lives.

Well, you have to know that it rains almost daily in Bergen. If you are up to that Bergen is an interesting city. 2 full days however is enough to see it; The main centre at the harbour is very touristic, unfortunately mainly due to many huge cruise-ships coming daily to the port and unleashing thousands of tourists. Around the harbour vicinity there are hardly any locals living. A bit off the centre there are many traditional houses.

Great hidden bars in Brugge area and super shopping experience. Access to the harbour markets, really nice food. Funicular was fun, walk to Ulriken was beautiful to escape the crowds. Fish Me inconsistent, great first night, very average second night ( fish soup served cold). Tram to airport cheap and fast.

I loved the architecture and history of the town, esp the museum of early Bergen. The public transportation was good, and the fish market was wonderful. Bring your waterproof jacket and pants as it rains there 270 days a year, so we were told. We had two days where rain never stopped (we were there two days total). Also, the restaurant costs were very high…but Norway in general is very expensive for USA travelers and our dollar value has dropped, making it even more pricey. However,it was a charming town in spite of the gray weather.

Bergen was a wonderful place to visit.

Bergen was a wonderful place to visit. The city is very walkable and beautiful. The vibe down by the water is unbelievable. Everything is conveniently located. It is a good base for other locations around the Bergen area in Norway.

Perfect location for the late flight in that arrives late into Bergen airport, easy to role the suitcase out of the airport over to the hotel. Overall look and feel of the hotel great and a nice introduction to Norway and Norwegian design. Room if it had been what we had reserved would have been OK, but unfortunately would seem that our family room had been provided to someone else.

In Norway you will find amazing breakfast buffets. Scandic was no exception. Staff everywhere speak excellent English and are helpful. Rooms are always spotless and beds of good quality. We loved the location, which was in comfortable proximity to the cruise ship port, market, fish, and other great, restaurants, shops and cafés and Bergen's parks and historic centre.

Excellent location, in the very centre, three or four minutes from the harbour. The room was not huge, but big enough considering Norway's prices. It was all clean, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was small but serviceable (toiletries were provided). It is a good place to stay three days in Bergen, or more, if you don't need luxury.

Single room/bed USD100pn is reasonable value for money in crazy expensive Norway. Small hotel in a reasonable location 20min walk from central station (bus/train/end of tram line min). Basic breakfast included.
