Sommarøy Arctic Hotel is located in the picturesque coastal village of Sommarøy and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, a 50-minute drive from Tromsø. It offers free private parking. Everything was perfect! We came here after my mom had fallen and wasn't able to move that great. The staff was so accommodating and gave us a room near the entrance so she did not have to walk far. The food is just amazingly good, from breakfast to dinner. The place is extremely peaceful and beautiful. We were lucky to see aurora each nights. This hotel is just heaven. Go there and enjoy your stay. As a mom, I can also say it is perfect for families. I am definitely taking mine the next time. You can also enjoy the gym and sauna. The staff was super helpful, caring and nice. A big big thanks to Kamila. We had a wonderful time there.
Located in Buvik, Buvik Sea Lodge offers accommodation with a terrace and free WiFi. The accommodation features a spa bath and a sauna. We loved our stay at the lodge. The view from the lodge is amazing, we even saw sea otters and a moose near the lodge. It’s really peaceful and relaxing. The owners of the lodge are very kind. They have 3 young children and can therefore not be in the lodge 24/7. However, this is not a problem at all because they make sure it is also possible to check-in if they are not around. The owners also have great plans for the lodge for the summer. They are making preparations right now for their new restaurant at the lodge and they have two boats that can be used for fishing trips in the summer. We therefore definitely plan to come back some day!
Yggdrasiltunet Farm Hotel is located on Kvaløya island, 50-minutes drive from central Tromsø. Free WiFi access is available at the farm. Wow, what a beautiful place! views are breathtaking, it’s peaceful and well off the beaten track. Your hosts will make you feel welcome and serve you with authentic Norwegian home cooked food. This is a perfect base if you like hiking and touring the surrounding mountains and Fjords, It won’t get dark in the summer and it’s a perfect place to see the northern lights in the winter. Highly highly recommended.
Camp North Tour offers a unique accommodation in the Arctic area, inspired by the ways of living of the native Sami people. The heated tents feature a double or two single beds and free WiFi. Kent and Richard have created a wonderful spot in the wilderness. We came to see the North Light and were so lucky to see it both evenings we stayed there. It’s a simple setting so don’t expect wild luxury however the simplicity and close contact with nature was what we were looking for.
I was there I early March and maybe the area was quiet because of that but I loved it that way. It’s a fantastically scenic location and well worth a visit even if you don’t stay there. The Artic Hotel is great for coffee and a snack.
Great location to get away from the busy city, providing excellent viewing of northern lights. Great scenery , snow capped mountains and coastline. Plenty of powder snow in autumn/winter/spring . Hiking and fishing are also activities in area. The adjoining small village has very good cafe and an excellent supermarket for your supplies. If you want to get a way from the rat race than Sommaroy is a great choice.
Really enjoyed our stay, great little island away from Tromso with little spots perfect for northern light hunting within walking distances. Only a couple of slight issues let it down - there’s renovation next to the hotel and construction noises are heard from 8am to 6pm and the selection for breakfast is pretty slim. Otherwise great place to stay for a few nights
Stunningly picturesque location with much to see in a small area. A car would have been useful, but we were there for relaxation and were happy to walk along the beach and be amazed not only at the Northern Lights overhead, but the the variations in light and shade on the distant mountains in the sun.
We decided that if we stayed in Sommaroy we wouldn't need to go 'chasing the lights' and we were right. Many of the trips from Tromso go to Sommaroy. Hike up Hillesoy had amazing views. There's a little cafe in the village centre and a supermarket with a post office. Bring your own wine - you can't buy it in the shops - only in the wine store in Tromso. Beer is sold in the supermarket at a price! Buses run quite regularly even in winter and are a cheap option. Will hopefully go back next year.

Room was really nice, comfy bed and the view from the balcony was beautiful! Wasnt many people at the hotel which we liked, wasnt crowded! The staff was really nice and helpful. Sauna was really nice, and you could see outside while it was snowing! We booked the northern lights tour and that night the lights werent strong enough so the guide said we can go the next day for no extra cost. Which was really nice. The tour was really nice and fun! I can only recommend this hotel. Really nice location.
