We thoroughly enjoyed the Botanical Gardens and the drive to the Albatross Centre. We timed it for the Saturday Farmers Market which was great. If we’d stayed longer, we may have done a penguin tour and more exploring of local beaches.

The Southern Hemisphere equivalent to the Edinburgh Region...

The Southern Hemisphere equivalent to the Edinburgh Region of Scotland is a great place, full of surprises & beautiful vistas. Rich in history, this area of Otago can be explored for days on end. There's shopping in abundance for the girls, a plethora of restaurants & bars for after a hard day of adventure. There is a multitude of Museums, Historical Houses, even a Sea Bird Sanctuary that need to be seen. Also high on a hill over-looking the entire Dunedin Bay Area is Lanach Castle & its beautiful garden & surrounds. You'll nae run short of things to do in this Celtic Jewel of the South Pacific. There are those experienced traveller's that say, " if you canny afford a trip ter Scotland & want ter be a wee bit thrifty by not spending endless & tiresome hours flying to the UK, then Dunedin & the entire Otago Region of the South Island of New Zealand is the PLACE TO GO ".

So much to do and see in Dunedin, from the fantastic pennisula an easy drive - Larnachs Castle. The area is blessed with so many outdoor opportunities, Tunnel Beach, Port Chalmers, and the Orokanui Eco Sanctuary and St Clair Beach are must do.s. As well as wildlife tours, where you can see penguins, seals, and bird life from the safety of a tour boat. And I have to mention the stunning architectural buildings in Dunedin, from the iconic Dunedin Railway Building, Olveston Historic Home, and many ornantly built churches in the city.

A quick list of things I really liked there and saw in three...

A quick list of things I really liked there and saw in three days. Signal hill, a pint of stout at Carey's historic Pub, a walk out to the spit. The Otago penisula, Larnach Castle, the albatross centre, tour with Clearwater seeing the yellow eyed penguins, walking Allan's beach. The farmers market near the trainstation on saturday, the bottle of home Yorkshire ale I bought from the market, two pints at Woof, sitting at Maggies drinking coffee and reading for an hour and talking to the locals. Wandering around admiring the architecture. Loved the place.

Beautiful historic houses.

Beautiful historic houses. Town a little to hectic with traffic for me. Peninsula stunning. We stayed mainly at the castle, which was worth the visit and stay. Wish we had allowed more time to explore the peninsula. Olveston house a must visit if you like historic beautiful houses with collections from around the world.

You will need a car in Dunedin.

You will need a car in Dunedin. We went to St Clair and then around to swim at Smails Beach. There were seals on the beach and almost no-one around. On Sunday we went to the market at the railway station. The Taieri Gorge Railway was excellent. Plenty of things to do in the area.

The hotel is in a historical building and the employee here is proud of the history of it. The concierge welcomingly showed us the 'ancient' elevator and essential information about Dunedin we can explore.
