Everything was on point. Nicely situated, close to all the things you need - supermarket, restaurants, pubs, public transport, city center. The room was nice and spacious, with an awesome bed and fluffy bedding. In the kitchen was everything that you could need which doesn't happen often - pan, toaster, cutlery, even salt/pepper/oil. Besides all these things, others stood out. 1) Customer service - nothing was a problem, the staff replied in a bit and they were very kind and helpful. 2) A heated floor in the bathroom - especially in winter is such a nice thing. 3) Totally two heaters - one in the bedroom and one in the living room. 4) Water in the refrigerator ready to drink and a variety of coffee, milk, and tea. Also, I had a room for disabled - can only recommend if available - a wider hallway and a bit more spacious. Nevertheless, I saw a normal room as well and it was still very nice. I stayed totally for 7 nights and only can recommend it.

One or two days are ideal to visit Dunedin during your travels. Visit Octagon square, visit St. Pauls cathedral and see Writers walk. Have a coffee in one of many coffee shops. Visit train station (have a trip if you have extra day -> worth the money), gallery and nearby park. Baldwin street is nice quick stop to tick one of boxes (world steepest street). Botanical gardens with aviatory and trees/plants from around the world is highly recommended. Visit Otago museum (not only) during rainy day. Short trip to Otago peninsula and visit Norther Royal Albatros colony and seagul nesting ground. If you have time and money, take the tour and combine with boat trip and evening penguin watching. Lots of walks on the hills, along the beach or wharf. Many things to do here.

We would have liked to have got up to the boulder rocks but just ran out of time, did the train trip up the gorge and that was cool, and the castle tour was interesting and informative, such a huge project the owners have taken on over many years to restore to its former glory. We packed a lot in for our one night and two days there.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Botanical Gardens and the drive to the Albatross Centre. We timed it for the Saturday Farmers Market which was great. If we’d stayed longer, we may have done a penguin tour and more exploring of local beaches.

The Southern Hemisphere equivalent to the Edinburgh Region...

The Southern Hemisphere equivalent to the Edinburgh Region of Scotland is a great place, full of surprises & beautiful vistas. Rich in history, this area of Otago can be explored for days on end. There's shopping in abundance for the girls, a plethora of restaurants & bars for after a hard day of adventure. There is a multitude of Museums, Historical Houses, even a Sea Bird Sanctuary that need to be seen. Also high on a hill over-looking the entire Dunedin Bay Area is Lanach Castle & its beautiful garden & surrounds. You'll nae run short of things to do in this Celtic Jewel of the South Pacific. There are those experienced traveller's that say, " if you canny afford a trip ter Scotland & want ter be a wee bit thrifty by not spending endless & tiresome hours flying to the UK, then Dunedin & the entire Otago Region of the South Island of New Zealand is the PLACE TO GO ".

So much to do and see in Dunedin, from the fantastic pennisula an easy drive - Larnachs Castle. The area is blessed with so many outdoor opportunities, Tunnel Beach, Port Chalmers, and the Orokanui Eco Sanctuary and St Clair Beach are must do.s. As well as wildlife tours, where you can see penguins, seals, and bird life from the safety of a tour boat. And I have to mention the stunning architectural buildings in Dunedin, from the iconic Dunedin Railway Building, Olveston Historic Home, and many ornantly built churches in the city.

The hotel is set in a fantastic location, right next to the beach. The staff were great upon our arrival and our room was excellent. We had a nice ocean view from the balcony, the room was clean and well appointed. Our bed was very comfortable and the shower was good. There was onsite parking available and a few nice restaurants and cafes nearby. We were given complimentary tickets to the heated seawater pool about 150m from the hotel which we made use of. It was easy to get to the Otego Peninsular, the Albatross Centre and central Dunedin.
