Conveniently accessible by water taxi from Picton, Lochmara Lodge offers exclusive accommodations surrounded by native bush and the beach. Guests can relax in a hammock overlooking Lochmara Bay. Great remote resort to relax in, cafe/restaurant on site was amazing, the staff was great and lots of activities to do. Rooms were comfortable and clean, exactly what we needed after hostel stays. We were also able to see glow worms on their nature walk at night and even bioluminescence at night in the ocean - incredible!
Just 15 minutes by boat from Picton, The Portage offers rooms with a private balcony or patio and features stunning views of the Marlborough Sounds. You can relax by the outdoor pool, go fishing from... Escape the hustle and bustle at Anakiwa Lodge, located in central Anakiwa, 70 metres from the waterfront. It offers extensive outdoor sundecks, ideal for viewing the surrounding bush. The Lodge is a very nice place with super friendly hosts. You can purchase some beverages and snacks as well as pizza. There is a nice well equipped kitchen area if you bring your own food. Everything was perfectly clean. It is located right by the warf and end of Queen Charlotte Track. I can 100% recommend this place.
An unspoilt location to enjoy a break. The Marlborough Sounds are unique and it takes a little effort to get there, but well worth it to enjoy the tranquillity and all it offers. Lovely clear water to swim or other water sports. Excellent outdoor cafe for evening meal or you can self cater. Portage hotel is close by also had good food.
Beautiful area; take the taxi ride with Pete from Kenepuru Taxi to fully appreciate the history and flora and fauna of the area. Eat at Raetihi Lodge, use their taxi service. The trip at night time is fantastic, looking at the star filled sky. Walk part of the Queen Charlotte Track.
A very peaceful and beautiful part of New Zealand would describe Kenepuru Sounds. Would recommend catching the water taxi to the Lodge which is a 10 minute boat ride across the Sound rather than driving the narrow winding road for 2 hours.
I hesitate to say how much I loved it, because I don't want everyone to flock there and have it overrun! It's beautiful. A very special place, including Queen Charlotte Drive, the Mussel Pot in Havelock (MUST eat there!), and sea kayaking.
