Set in Mount Cook National Park, The Hermitage Hotel features a range of rooms and suites all offering majestic mountain views, and most with views of Mount Cook. The hotel is huge... You can borrow a sleigh from the hotel to play outside. The snow mountains just in front of the hotel. We loved it. Food is good too.

Fox Glacier (Near Mount Cook Village)
Ivorytowers Backpacker Lodge is located opposite Westland National Park rainforest and mountains, just a 4-minute walk from Fox Glacier Village. Our second time staying here and will 100% return again. Host is absolutely lovely! Shame to see the place quieter this time round. Facilities are great here too, perfect location in Fox.
We were a bit disappointed to be honest. The scenery on the drive up is much nicer. We hiked up to Tasman Lookout but the water was murky and ultimately underwhelming. Location is difficult and accommodation is limited. Hire bikes, drive up for the day spin around and head back.
We went for the hikes and mountain views but also really enjoyed the Department of Conservation/Information centre - it had amazing photos and stories of the mountain history & terrain. The building has an awesome window to view the mountains and downstairs a 3D map of all the mountains + video presentations. Along with nice gift shop & clean toilets.
A great spot surrounded by mountains. Ammenities other than accommodation are limited. Really only a place to stay while hiking in the mountains. Would not go there if I was not prepared to walk to experience the wilderness. Great range of walks from 10 mins to multiple day treks. So something for everyone. Hermitage is overpriced but does have an great view from the bar and dining area to Mt Aoraki. Amazing to watch it change as the sun sets.
So beautiful. Lots of choices for short achievable family day walks. The hooker valley walk was stunning. Not a huge amount of options for food options at the moment so if your room has facilities bring some supplies.
Beautiful scenery, lots of walks to do all with great views. Good activities to take part in, but can be costly. Walks are free!! Not many options for eating though, but YHA has great self catering facilities.
We didnt really have anything to do with the actual village as we were on a mission to bike to the glacier in the morning and we were departing on return. Its so conveniently placed and of course where ever you are in the village you get stunning 'eye candy'. One of those places that everywhere you go or turn you say "Oh wow!" We ate at the Hermitage restaurant and didnt hold out much hope as we are vegans....the chef went out of his way as did the serving staff to provide us with more food than we should have eaten but oh my it was delicious. Wonderful staff everywhere. We highly recommend a trip to the planetarium, very informative and of course you get to put your newly gained knowledge into practise looking up at the night sky later. Tasman glacier is a stones throw (in our case a bike ride) away, a short walk up to the viewing area and "OH WOW!" Go see it, before it disappears.
Mount Cook Village
The house was ideal for two couples. It was very homely, warm when we arrived, and there was a fire which added to the ambience. Facilities were good. From the house you could see Mt Cook from the lounge and bedroom. It was awesome. For us the stay was perfect. Easy walk to Visitors centre which was exceptional and to The Heritage hotel for a meal.
Mount Cook Village
Great room, very quiet and clean. The manager was very friendly and gave some good local advice. We had a great view of the glaciers near Mount Cook, but couldn't see the mountain itself. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Aoraki Court Motel and recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area.
Definitely unexpected large multi floored hotel in the middle of nowhere! The rooms were comfortable and clean, a little tired and dated especially the bathroom. it did however have an amazing mountain view. The restaurant was buffet style and the food ver good.
Mount Cook Village
Very comfortable, friendly place to stay in the heart of Aoraki Mt Cook NP. Very helpful staff and followed up on my waitlist request - 5 months later!! Great service. :-) Great view from our private room with bath.
Mount Cook Village
The best was that we had a dorm with 4 beds, but it still felt like a hotel room. It was very clean and luxury. Huge tv screen on the wall and a really nice bathroom. Even an own balcony. Small fridge in the room
