Located in Mount Cook National Park and offering beautiful mountain views, Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Lodge is a 5-minute walk from Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Center. Absolutely awesome fully equipped and large common kitchen and dining area! Talk about a view from there! An absolutely unexpected bonus is the parking lot right behind the hotel - you cannot ask for a more perfect place for stargazing in the dark sky reserve that is pitch black and yet so close to your hotel. I had mesmerizing views of the night sky from there. I will stay here and nowhere else in any of my future trips at Mount Cook Village.
Set in Mount Cook Village in the Canterbury region, Aoraki Alpine Chalet features a patio and garden views. Terrific accommodation. Restaurant choices are limited, but facilities at chalet are very good for cooking, so be sure to pack some groceries. A very comfortable place to relax and enjoy the mountain views.
Located near Lake Tekapo in the Canterbury region, Mount Cook Station Huts provides accommodations with free WiFi. Guests can also relax in the garden. Everything. The isolation factor, the view from the hut, amenities provided, even the drive to the huts was amazing. We were initially daunted by the location because it made the drive to all the sights of interest a far distance away (Aoraki Airport was about 1.5hr away). All our fears were gone when we were treated with a scenic drive with Mount Cook in the horizon. It was such an amazing difference from the buzz of city life, a much welcome change in fact. The hut itself was lovely. Bed was very comfortable and cleanliness was ensured. The shared kitchen was sufficient to cook simple meals. I strongly recommend eating outside on the bench and enjoy the fresh air and magnificent views. The toilet was large and has strong shower with hot water. There is only two huts available and so it's really quiet and peaceful. The process of checking in and out couldn't be any easier. Mount Cook Station Hut is honestly a place you cannot stop raving about but also don't want too many people to know about because you just it all to yourself.
Located in Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook Station Shearers Quarters Lodge has accommodations with free WiFi and a garden with a grill. The campground has a sun terrace. We absolutely loved our cozy Stay at this peaceful place. The views were beautiful, the hosts lovely and the room was all warm and waiting for us. Was absolutely perfect to come back to after a long hike . Looking forward to going back in the future 😀
Glentanner Park is a holiday park and activity center offering affordable accommodations and panoramic views of Aoraki Mount Cook and Mount Cook National Park. The staff are very accommodating. It’s 15 mins drive from Mt Cook Village but it has a really good view of the mountains from your room. Clean bathroom and comfortable beds.
Offering free WiFi, Bella Vista Accommodations provides modern, comfortable rooms in the heart of Fox Glacier. Guests have access to a BBQ area. All rooms have a flat-screen TV with satellite... Great location close to restaurants. Very clean. Very helpful hosts.
We didnt really have anything to do with the actual village as we were on a mission to bike to the glacier in the morning and we were departing on return. Its so conveniently placed and of course where ever you are in the village you get stunning 'eye candy'. One of those places that everywhere you go or turn you say "Oh wow!" We ate at the Hermitage restaurant and didnt hold out much hope as we are vegans....the chef went out of his way as did the serving staff to provide us with more food than we should have eaten but oh my it was delicious. Wonderful staff everywhere. We highly recommend a trip to the planetarium, very informative and of course you get to put your newly gained knowledge into practise looking up at the night sky later. Tasman glacier is a stones throw (in our case a bike ride) away, a short walk up to the viewing area and "OH WOW!" Go see it, before it disappears.
What a stunning location even though we couldn’t see Mt Cook we loved being there. We will definitely be heading back it was a magic place to just relax or take up some tours and strolling in the beauty of it all.
The mountains, glaciers, lakes and wild flowers make this place truly picturesque. Among many of the tracks, my favourite is still the Hooker Valley Track. It always surprises you along the walk. Heli Hiking on the Tasman Glacier is another highlight. You will be stunned in the beautiful blue cave.
If you really want to explore Aoraki National Park - there is no place better than the village. Give yourself plenty of time, and attempt to do as many walks as possible. Hooker Valley track is a must do!
The mountains are the drawcard. The views are exquisite and the walks are numerous and varied. Something for every level of fitness, interest and time. The Old Mountaineers Restaurant was a great dining option, but when we were there it was the only show in town. We stayed at the Aoraki Mt Cook Alpine Lodge which was fantastic. The Information Centre was really interesting - two floors of information about the human and natural history of the area. Could easily take an hour+ to look at all the exhibits.
great little village. Only the café/bar/restaurant was open at moment due to Covid19 level 2 and winter hours. Great location for a couple of quick walks if the weather is not good or for longer day walks.
