Impressed with this hotel: our room, staff, breakfasts, evening meals, underground parking (at$15pn). Breakfasts consisted of a good continental spread plus an individually prepared hot meal. I can't remember if the latter was included or whether I had prepaid. It did mean the breakfast was hot and not a possible lukewarm meal from a bain-marie. The hotel was just a little way from "town" (but not very far) and there was a Pac'n Save supermarket just over the road for nibbles and drinks. This was my second visit to Napier mainly to look at art deco commercial buildings (with Hastings also a must & possibly even a better example). I doubt there will be a 3rd visit (only because of age) but the hotel is now part of a Group and I would certainly consider those other hotels if they fall within my travel plans. Also by joining the free membership you get a good discount from meals etc.

Our spacious room was on the ground floor with an outside sitting area overlooking an expanse of grass and water. The bed was comfortable and large, The room was well equipped with cutlery, crockery & a microwave. The bathroom & shower were spacious. The room was very quiet as it is surrounded by open grounds. It is between the airport and the main tourist area so you definitely need a car. We returned for a second night at the end of our visit to the Napier region as we had been so satisfied with the room and the tranquility.

Napier is a fabulous and relaxing place to visit and stay. Lots to do. Nice cafes and restaurants. Lots of history. Interesting and awesome architecture. Probably the 8th time I've stayed. My favorite place in New Zealand.

It's a beautiful town with a fascinating and inspiring history of catastrophe and recovery. My only gripe was the boy racers in the evening roaring up and down the streets in cars with those horrible modified exhausts - hey, lads, they're just a very loud and obvious sign of your own inadequacy. Get over yourselves and find a life. Embarrassing..... Everything else was GREAT!

Cute town, easy to park and move around.

Cute town, easy to park and move around. Architecture is novel and striking for NZ :0) Vincis pizza is the best!! A visit to havelock North is well worth it too with some lovely eateries and op shops as well as the more pricey ones!! A walk along the seafront in Napier is a pleasant way to while away some time..

Lovely seaside town, great architecture and climate.

Lovely seaside town, great architecture and climate. Wear sunscreen and a hat! I ate at Hapi twice, which is a great spot for vegan/allergy-havers and those who want to eat organically (I had cornbread, a filling sandwich and a rich cake). I had a very yummy peach cider from The Rogue Hop and some satisfying fries. I had a yummy curry from The Turmeric Cuisine over at the port, who also have a selection of vegan dishes. I had a good coffee from Baked on the side of the Central Fire Station Bistro. I had a beer at Market St bar which was busy in a good way with a range of ages in attendance. I had a vehicle to drive around with so that was easy but the people of Hawkes Bay are pretty useless with their indicators. I checked out The Department of Curiosities which was pretty cute, the pottery place next door which had some lovely works and the Tennyson Gallery which had some beautiful pieces of jewellery - all local wares. The Boyd Dunlop galleries are filled with a wide variety of high quality contemporary art pieces and the owners are lovely. The MTG (Museum) was great as a solo traveller. I recommend the basement exhibition to learn about the local history of the massive earthquake which shaped what the town is today. Was nice to see some new paint on the buildings since I was last there, much more colourful and interesting.

We had the lovely Indian themed room, which had a separate bathroom. The room was very comfortable, nicely decorated and very clean. There's a curtain to pull in front of both the room and bathroom doors to give more privacy, which we really appreciated. Breakfast was self service from the kitchen, which you can eat in the sun room overlooking Marine Parade. Cereals, toast and the owner's honey. Location is great for all Napier's attractions, and there was plentiful free parking. We had a great stay.

Such an iconic hotel in Napier. You feel like stepping into a Gatsby movie scene from the very moment you walk in the reception. Rooms were clean, spacious and had excellent air con. Close to all the city centre must do & see locations and had a great time at the Irish pub downstairs when they hosted their weekly pub quiz xx
