There are a few places outside Otorohanga to go to Waitomo Caves, Mangapohue Natuaral Bridge, Marokopa Falls and a trip to Hairy Feet via Pio Pio. Otorohanga has some good places to eat chinese, japanese and thai restaurants, lots of cafes. Good Countdown would not recommend to the Kiwi Centre a complete waste of time, only ducks and no kiwi's.
Don"t visit the Otorohanga Club. Food is terrible. e.g. Roast chicken dinner consisted of microwave heated roasted chicken (dry) and cold boiled potatoes with mayonnaise!!! Caesar salad - made with course stalky outer lettace leaves and over cooked bacon. Both over priced. Overall opinion - Give Otorohanga a miss. Travel on to Te Kuiti.
Stayed two nights for the Caves because of the location. I think I might stay in the Caves Hotel next time. However, the Kiwi House was really good. The town restaurants do what they can (Indian, Japanese, Thai) but it’s a pretty tough go for them.
The entire point of the visit was to see The Waitomo Cave glow worms, which was an excellent experience! The town, itself, isn’t much, but we did have a good Ramen dish at the Sushi restaurant in town.
In the evening Otorohanga did not appear to have many choices in places to eat. It is a small one street town but is conveniently located near to the Glow Worm Caves. We only stayed 2 nights as we were passing through so perhaps did not see as much as we might have.
Very friendly people, the breakfast we had at the cafe was a big meal and very well priced. The walkway with the memorabilia was great, always like that and overall they've done a lot to enhance the town. The Otorohanga Club is a great place to have a meal.

The room is like a lovely little apartment overlooking the pretty grounds/fields of the farm. The attention to detail in the room to what a person may need was great; dressing gown (bathrobe) and hairdryer, if needed, were nice touches. Having breakfast ready in the room was also nice as you could make and eat it at your own pace. Location quiet and close to centre of Otorohanga to drive for evening meal/get to Waitomo caves. The hosts were very friendly & Noel took his time to provide directions on things to do.

Communication from the hosts was detailed and ahead of time. No trouble locating the place. Peaceful location still close to some good local towns with lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. Easy driving distance to Waitomo caves. Place itself is brand new with good quality fixtures. Kitchen is supplied with all items needed for the included continental breakfast.

Our hostess was extremely accommodating and friendly. Our plans changed and she put us up an extra night changing her own plans. The location was very good, just 15-20 minutes from Waitomo Caves. The place is clean and quiet. There is a hot tub but we did not use it. All the food was FRESH and breakfast was great.

This motel has been around for many years and is still in very good shape, despite it’s age. I’ve stayed there a number of times since the late 90’s and it still ticks every box in my opinion. Good job by Dean, the boss. Another example of great motels and hospitality in small town NZ!

A quiet motel set well back from the road and off-set rooms gave a feeling of privacy. Nice views over rolling farmland and gardens. Generous breakfast in room. Pam was very helpful and informative on options for viewing the caves.
