Loved the charm of the old post office, nicely furnished and welcoming. The hotel great place to eat, the kauri museum just op the road., which was very interesting with a nice shop also and a cafe close by.
Really lovely little town. There for a one off event and found local community supportive and friendly. Great local farmers market on the Saturday and a fantastic little cafe/shop - Empire art and espresso, that let me in to browse and relax while the coffee machine warmed up, and worth the wait for a great coffee.
Paparoa is close to the famous Matakohe Kauri Museum. The Paparoa Hotel is recommended for delicous meals. ( I didn't try it myself, but the other guests where I stayed did.) Ruawai which is famous for Kaipara Kumara is nearby, and you will enjoy taking photos of the Kumara painted on the warehouse. Also, Dargaville is about 45mins drive away with many tourist attractions to enjoy.
Paparoa would make a good base to explore that area of the west coast. Small Quiet rural town and the Old Post Office would make a great base for a few days stay - it was cheaper than quoted. Some great rural views.
Take time to do the walkway - it's not too long but very interesting terrain through meadows forest and over boardwalks across the mangrove swamps. We ate at the newly done up hotel where the food was prepared very nicely by a Russian lady. Good food and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
A lovely little northland town. Wonderful old buildings and interesting shops. Dinner at The Thirsty Tui was delicious and the Karaoke was excellent entertainment. Very friendly and welcoming people.
