Set on 2500 acres, Waitomo Boutique Lodge boasts panoramic views of the Coromandel Ranges and Ngauruhoe ski fields. Guests enjoy free cooked breakfast and free W-Fi. Very charming house in the middle of a massive property. Everything is nice and cosy. My cottage was very calm and very well done. Comfort is great too (bed). Morning breakfast is huge and so good, made by the owner. I was alone but i recommend this cottage to couple....very romantic. The view is stunning over this region (if clear weather, you can see even Coromandel or Tangariro) and above the hills far away. More than everything, the very warm welcoming of the 2 owners was incredible. So nice and friendly people...and i may say that after touring in NZ, the Kiwis people is very friendly...go there!
Featuring an outdoor pool, a restaurant and a bar with billiards, Panorama Motor Inn is just 5 minutes’ drive from Te Kuiti Train Station. Lovely friendly staff had turned the heater on in our unit so it was nice and warm on a cold winter night. Unit had everything we needed and was very clean.

This grand historic hotel is situated on a hill overlooking Waitomo Village and the famous Waitomo Caves. Perfectly located pretty close to the Waitomo Caves. The hotel offers big and clean rooms. The stuff was really friendly. The hat Christmas dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was delicious.
The hospitality and friendliness. Fresh air, sightseeing up around the lime rock cliffs. Hobbit tours. The food... the food. Between the Fat Pigeon and the Owls Nest you will be very spoilt for choice. Also the normal takeaway selections are available if needed .
It was convenient and reasonably close to the glow worm caves at Waitomo where we had booked for the next day. We used the motel restaurant for dinner and found the food tasty and reasonably priced.
I knew nothing about Piopio before we stayed but booked there as we had been black water rafting that day and wanted to stay somewhere before heading to Rotorua. The town is small and has some interesting shops but we arrived on a public holiday so they were all closed.
I am a great fan of PioPio. From the beautiful scenery that surrounds it to the great food on offer at the Fat Pigeon Cafe or the Night Owl Pub and Restaurant. From the interesting and reasonably priced array of art on display at the Gallery to the friendly and engaging residents of this great little town. Don`t miss the fascinating insight to the towns history nestling in the collection of preserved buildings which form the town Museum ( Free to view with a key available from the 4sqare store on the corner of Moa Street) and there is always a friendly welcome at the Cosmopolitan Club opposite. Too many other reasons to list here. Visit and see for yourself !
