Beverly, the host, was so welcoming and helpful! The bed was super comfortable and all the amenities very nice. The balcony was perfect for watching sunrise. We really enjoyed walking around the bay for breakfast.

What's not to like? The room had a great view out of 3 sides of the bay (about 50 meters away). There are a total of 4 beds (one double) and 3 twin beds in my room) if you're bringing your family. The bed I slept on was very comfortable. The building is relatively close to the main highway and town, but you don't hear any road noise. It's an easy walk to good restaurants and grocery stores. The place has an ocean theme. There's a fully stocked kitchen, so you can make your own food to save on costs. The back deck provides a great place to eat your meals while looking out at the bay. Brad (the owner) learned that I'm a whitewater kayaker, so he immediately offered to lend me his boat to paddle up the mouth of the local river. That was a nice gesture that went above and beyond! It was a beautiful paddle. Since my back surgery, it's been the only thing I've done that doesn't hurt. Thank you!! I'd definitely recommend this place!

Liked its central quieter location within easy distance of...

Liked its central quieter location within easy distance of Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach and Whitianga to which we did day trips. Eatery's were adequate, enjoyed the Gemstore and browsing other shops, peple friendly. On the way there and back enjoyed a drive out to Bowentown, visiting Athenree Hot Pools at the Campsite, and the mining Museum in Waihi was enjoyed by our 8 and 13 year old grandies.

We love kayaking in the estuary and up Pepe Stream, boogie...

We love kayaking in the estuary and up Pepe Stream, boogie boarding in the ocean, and coffees at the cafes. We always visit Kaore Bay (Sailors Grave) up the road as you have trees to sit under, the surf beach and the estuary for kids to play in all in the one spot. There are plenty of bushwalking tracks if that is your thing, and the locals are all really friendly. Tairua is an ideal destination for families.

Great seaside town, with both safe swimming and surf beaches. Good range of cafes, and a four square and pharmacy. Couple of bottle stores to cover off the essentials..... awesome beaches everywhere.

It is a beautiful coastal town with plenty of eating places...

It is a beautiful coastal town with plenty of eating places and little food bars tucked into corners providing a quaint experience. There is a four square but it closes early. In a small town one would expect it to be open later. There is a superette that was open late with a lovely owner. Would definitely holiday here again.

Lovely laid-back and friendly little town in fantastic location and with great amenities. It’s got everything you need - shops, choice of places to eat and drink, lovely estuary with beaches for swimming when tide is in, and a great ocean surfing beach. Got a great little art gallery well worth a visit, and very helpful tourist info next door to library. Boat trips, including to Cathedral Cove direct from town - and lots of great beaches and other places visit just a short drive away. We loved Sailors Grave beach just 10 minutes drive.

Loved the relaxed atmosphere.

Loved the relaxed atmosphere. My father in law(1902-1997) used to say that Tairua never knew the Depression was on, meaning life went on as usual, plenty of seafood to eat etc. it had the same feel today.

We really appreciated the ground floor unit with a view to the estuary which was lovely both early morning and in the late afternoon sun. We made use of the well equipped kitchenette and SkyTV. And it was a handy location to hike up to the lookout on Mt Paku. And less than 30 minutes to Hot Water Beach. Next time we look forward to spending time on the sweep of Tairua Beach.
