Peaceful and restful trip. You can do as much as you want or as little. It always feels fresh and clean.
I always leave refreshed. Lovely lakefront walk, good shopping and many excellent choices for coffee, brunches and dinner. A personal favourite is The Cozy Corner Cafe. Also highly recommend Cobb & Co, especially if traveling with small children.

We were there for the McCartney football tournament and turned out as a whole family holiday. Taupo in itself is awesome and we wished we were there to enjoy the place the whole time but we manage to visit place. The lakefront restaurants were equally great and struggled to choose. Everything was great especially the boat tour and scenery I.e. environment and geography (nature). Just awesome.

Lots of op shops, usual touristy shops.
Food was expensive but plenty of choice.
Plenty of walking, jogging to be done around the lake.
Great squash club and a number of hot pools of differing standards to choose from.
Make sure you pack all weather gear and it is a chilly wind off the lake-thermals out of summer are a must 😁

I live in Taupō and it is a beautiful place to live.
I live in Taupō and it is a beautiful place to live. The lake and rivers are stunning, the views are immaculate. We moved here from Auckland 13 years ago and would rather be homeless in Taupō then move back.

Property is located on the lakefront not far from Taupo town centre - making it easy to explore on foot and enjoy the views, lake and nature surrounding it. We made a last minute booking but the owners were very prompt at checking us in. Lovely family run business with customer service at heart. Room/unit was very clean, comfortable and modern. Would return again in future - thanks Franky and Kavita.
The staff at Hilton Lake Taupo were absolutely amazing, especially the lovely Filipinas at the front desk. They really went the extra mile to make sure our stay was super comfortable and enjoyable. The rooms were nice and roomy, and we had our own balconies with stunning views of either the lake or the hotel pool.
The room was beautifully presented. The hotel location is on the lake about 4km from the town of Taupo. The staff were lovely. Breakfast selection of freshly prepared fruit was very good. Room AC worked well.
