Featuring a garden and barbecue facilities, National Park Backpackers is located in National Park. The property has a shared kitchen, a shared lounge and luggage storage for guests. Stayed for Tongariro crossing - the location is perfect and there is a shuttle service for a fee. Flexible with late check-in and our room even had a heating on when we arrived. The staff is very friendly and helpful - Anna checked the detailed weather forecasts and recommended when to do the crossing. They also have some gear for rent which made our trek possible and much more comfortable. One of the best backpackers place to stay in plus a really good value. Would book here again if in the area.

An exceptional, well equipped, spacious and very comfortable villa. One of the best accommodations that we have stayed in. The large log effect, real flame fire in the lounge area with a Christmas tree in the corner of the room made for a very festive and welcoming homely feel. The kitchen area is very well equipped. The beds are comfortable. You won't be disappointed if you decide to stay here. We were sorry to leave.

Hi, It is better to plan your trip for at least two days. You can enrol your kids to ski school at the nearby school for a longer duration trip so that they learn the art of skiing. Bringing chains with the car will help you to revisit the Whakapapa skiing location often and reduce the commute cost. All in all, it was good to see snow all around especially if you are coming from the northern part of NZ.
Meant to say in my review last night that we had a lovely waitress for dinner, young girl,Lisa? And the main reason we didn't pay for the dinner was because it came 10past10pm, besides one was not eatable.
The staff and food were excellent but the Hotel was understaffed because of "Grab 1" patrons filling the Hotel. The Management should not have allowed the "Grab 1 " to sell more places than the number of staff they had could provide the correct service.
visitor centre so welcoming and helpful about weather forecast, sorting out car permits for leaving our vehicles for 4 days while we do the tongariro northern circuit. beautiful and tidy village, everything was so clean and well sign posted. cafe in the chateau, beautiful food, welcoming, and kept clean with clear rules for COVID. skotel motel was just perfect for our group of 12 trampers doing Tongariro northern circuit was just amazing with perfect weather and all DOC huts were welcoming, comfortable and the views of nature, volcanic landscape, mountains, bushes, scrubs, flowers, rivers, streams, waterfalls, springs, sun, moon, stars in the sky were awe inspiring, precious and irreplaceable. it was so wonderful to only see few people around - huge difference from 2 years ago where it was absolutely packed on the Tongaririo crossing - 4, 000 people on the trail
Nice and calm, but no any supermarkets. Should do some shopping before coming to live here, as it's expensive to buy everything in hotel/resort, as well menu's are not full of many choices. If it's raining, it's not a lot to do, just chilling in your hotels.
The scenery was beautiful, definitely a spot to come for skiing, we weren't able to spend the time enjoying these activities. dinner at the Ruapehu room was delicious, plunge pool was a nice relaxing extra.
I like that it is in whakapapa village and there are areas where the view outside is very amazing.
An exceptional hotel that takes you back in time.
