The historical Chateau Tongariro Hotel impresses with its grand architecture and interiors, location in the Tongariro National Park and facilities, which include a 9-hole golf course and a cinema. Loveed the facilities and proximety to good hikes . Also loved the hotel cinema!
Located in the heart of Tongariro National Park, Skotel Alpine Resort offers a restaurant, a hot tub and a terrace bar with a fireplace. Most accommodations boast stunning mountain or region views. Epic view, I think the best in the area by far... and the staff were amazing. Sauna, hot tub and soon yoga and massage!

Alpine Chalets has garden views, free WiFi and free private parking, set in National Park. Room and bed are spacious and comfy. Owners are super friendly and helpful. We have arived in late hours to check in and they left heat pump on, so room was warm when we came. We will for sure stay at The Alpine Chalets again
Ruapehu Retreat is a spacious and self-catering holiday home located in National Park. It is set in a convenient location for guests to explore the Tongariro National Park and wider Ruapehu region. We did Alpine crossing and the shuttle stop was very close. Also, grocery and restaurant are just next doors. Easy to get into the house. Kitchen is very well equipped. Want to come back again.
Located in the Tongariro National Park, The Park Hotel Ruapehu offers affordable accommodations in a stunning alpine setting. Guests are provided with free parking and 500MB of free WiFi. Great location to access the National Park! Good food in the hotel, and several options within easy walking distance. Beautiful fire to warm up after a chilly day in the mountains!
Nice and calm, but no any supermarkets. Should do some shopping before coming to live here, as it's expensive to buy everything in hotel/resort, as well menu's are not full of many choices. If it's raining, it's not a lot to do, just chilling in your hotels.
The scenery was beautiful, definitely a spot to come for skiing, we weren't able to spend the time enjoying these activities. dinner at the Ruapehu room was delicious, plunge pool was a nice relaxing extra.
We really enjoyed interacting with staff and locals. Was relaxed and quiet. Really appreciated the nature experience and walks. And the complimentary bottle of wine for our anniversary. The information centre was excellent and provided essential and helful information.
Whakapapa village was great. With kids it was just as well we took plenty of snack foods that they like, as there aren't any food shops - which is part of its beauty. I loved that there are soo many different walks you can do, as well as the skiing option of course.
Checked in with the team at DOC before doing the Tongariro Crossing .Extremely helpful.Ate at the Ruapehu Rm excellent choice of meals great breakfast range (toaster is slow)cafe great leek soup, High tea in the lounge very memorable .comfortable beds great amenities loved the stay . Great staff
Easy to walk around. Scenery lovely, although we didn't get to see the top of mountain , Doc centre most interesting, and great walks. Drove to ' top of the bruce' and will be back to experience gondola next year.
Place is just beautiful. Even though it is an old building, it was impeccably clean and the staff was just amazing. The walks around the hotel and proximity with the ski field also add lots to the experience. Restaurant serves nice dishes and drinks in an acceptable price, so no need to go out for anything. if you look for a nice place to relax, this is the place. Highly recommended.
Great location in Tongaririo National Park - served us well for staying a night after completing the Tongaririo Northern Circuit. Enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant - menu was labelled with allergens which was helpful for my gluten free husband.
