The great location and cleanliness of the facilities were both exceptional. However, the staff were what made my stay a 10/10, not only did they let me have a late checkout as I waited for my train but Marina and Louis also picked me up and dropped me off right at the train station. Incredibly friendly and accommodating!

The location was pretty good -- about 5 or so minutes driving to the nearest gas station, shop and restaurants. The free parking and some shared kitchen amenities were nice to have.

It was a good location for exploring the park. the facilities were very basic, likely intended for campers looking for a break.

The best place to stay, especially if you are on your way to go to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
Gillian and John's hospitality was so much more than what we expected. They helped us to understand what we are up against, drove us to and from the track (extra payment, booked on their website).
Gillian was in contact while we were on the track to make sure we are ok and on time.
John drove us back and due to the low season, was able to accommodate our personal finish time.
The room itself was great, had everything we needed and was quite comfortable.
The communal kitchen is in great shape, we used the grill to make a great meal, and also the oven to bake bread (dietary restrictions) and the freezer.
The washer and dryer are ok.
Thanks for the stay

Very convenient to areas of the park. Roomy, nice deck off our room, light breakfast. Has a ski lodge feel. Warm welcome.
The management is chaotic. I lost my ski poles. It took me an hour to find them among three girls. I found that all their equipment was someone else's. I was shocked. There were too many novices. My friend's child was hit three times in one day. It was really dangerous.

We loved our visit. Fantastic views and quality time.
We loved our visit. Fantastic views and quality time. Easy to get around in a standard car. Weather conditions were clear and bright, mild cold temperatures so a very minimal amount of ice on the road. We recommend the sky waka gondola. The skotel alpine resort is a good place to stay.

The isite leaves a lot to be desired.
The isite leaves a lot to be desired. It could easily go from barely adequate to basic competence by putting boards outside stating the office is closed. As walkers are supposed to register their walks on the mountain you wonder how accurate their information is when the office is closed and there isn’t even a notice board outside for walkers to use to show they’ve left or returned.
The village in summer, now the Chateau is closed, has very little available accommodation.
There is a shop for basics and Skotel runs a great restaurant and bar.

Absolutely recommend the 2 hour walk to Taranaki Falls.
Absolutely recommend the 2 hour walk to Taranaki Falls. You can do it in sneakers, some parts are lovely bush right alongside the river. The landscape keeps changing. Its beautiful and the air is so fresh. There's a table at the falls so take your picnic and stop for a while.
Get your caffeine fix from TNT Pataka Food Truck at Whakapapa Holiday Park, they make a decent coffee and the food looked good too.
Unfortunately some places in the area closed due to staff shortages, so it might pay to check for what is open when you visit.

Hi,
It is better to plan your trip for at least two days. You can enrol your kids to ski school at the nearby school for a longer duration trip so that they learn the art of skiing. Bringing chains with the car will help you to revisit the Whakapapa skiing location often and reduce the commute cost. All in all, it was good to see snow all around especially if you are coming from the northern part of NZ.

Meant to say in my review last night that we had a lovely waitress for dinner, young girl,Lisa? And the main reason we didn't pay for the dinner was because it came 10past10pm, besides one was not eatable.

The accomodation was good. It was clean and comfortable. Booking at the restaurant was easy. Check in and check out was easy and helpful. It had nice views and I enjoyed walking around the site and nearby trail to see the sunrise over Mt. Ngaurahoe. It’s the closest accomodation to Mt Ruapehu! It was a pleasant and comfortable stay for one night made great by the proximity to the mountains as well as the Tawhai Falls walk (Gollums Pool). It was awesome value overall.
