The historical Chateau Tongariro Hotel impresses with its grand architecture and interiors, location in the Tongariro National Park and facilities, which include a 9-hole golf course and a cinema. Lovely old fashioned grandeur served up in a modern, polite but unstuffy, informal way.
Located in the heart of Tongariro National Park, Skotel Alpine Resort offers a restaurant, a hot tub and a terrace bar with a fireplace. Most accommodations boast stunning mountain or region views. Great place to stay so close to ski field facilities and food fantastic
Set in National Park, Mountain Heights Lodge offers six self-contained motel units and four ensuite B&B rooms, BnB rooms welcomes children over the age of 14 and above. Private parking is free. I felt home away from home, thanks to the warm welcome and simply wonderful hospitality. Woke up with seeing the rabbits in the morning and a stunning night sky in the eve. Rooms were super tidy and there was plenty of space. You had everything in the room to make you feel home. Parking was very convenient, right outside the door.
Ruapehu Retreat is a spacious and self-catering holiday home located in National Park. It is set in a convenient location for guests to explore the Tongariro National Park and wider Ruapehu region. The place was really excellent, clean and modern. Weather was not great when we were at national park. But luckily we got the place to stay and wait out the weather. Christmas tree next to actually working fire place is added bonus in this holiday season!
Located in the Tongariro National Park, The Park Hotel Ruapehu offers affordable accommodations in a stunning alpine setting. Guests are provided with free parking and 500MB of free WiFi. Great location to access the National Park! Good food in the hotel, and several options within easy walking distance. Beautiful fire to warm up after a chilly day in the mountains!
Nice and calm, but no any supermarkets. Should do some shopping before coming to live here, as it's expensive to buy everything in hotel/resort, as well menu's are not full of many choices. If it's raining, it's not a lot to do, just chilling in your hotels.
The scenery was beautiful, definitely a spot to come for skiing, we weren't able to spend the time enjoying these activities. dinner at the Ruapehu room was delicious, plunge pool was a nice relaxing extra.
We really enjoyed interacting with staff and locals. Was relaxed and quiet. Really appreciated the nature experience and walks. And the complimentary bottle of wine for our anniversary. The information centre was excellent and provided essential and helful information.
Whakapapa village was great. With kids it was just as well we took plenty of snack foods that they like, as there aren't any food shops - which is part of its beauty. I loved that there are soo many different walks you can do, as well as the skiing option of course.

Easy to walk around. Scenery lovely, although we didn't get to see the top of mountain , Doc centre most interesting, and great walks. Drove to ' top of the bruce' and will be back to experience gondola next year.
The unique location & history of this hotel. The ultimate gateway for a grand hiking experience within the National Park. The food at the Pihamga - local & delicious. Staff attentive & non intrusive. Comfortable room - spacious.
Location is the most you get with the stay. Overall it has got an old character of the wooden lodge hotel
