The historical Chateau Tongariro Hotel impresses with its grand architecture and interiors, location in the Tongariro National Park and facilities, which include a 9-hole golf course and a cinema. Lovely old fashioned grandeur served up in a modern, polite but unstuffy, informal way.
Located in the heart of Tongariro National Park, Skotel Alpine Resort offers a restaurant, a hot tub and a terrace bar with a fireplace. Most accommodations boast stunning mountain or region views. The location was brilliant. The view from the balcony was to die for and looked just as gorgeous as the pictures. The room was spacious and there was sufficient wind entering the room through the balcony door. We were served this amazing local coffee from Taupo at dinner which was brilliant. Do try it when you're there.

Clean and tidy The spa was lovely after a 6 hour drive They were really good with all the festival goers. A bus picks you up right outside the hotel and drops you off after Mardi Gras- very handy!
We really enjoyed interacting with staff and locals. Was relaxed and quiet. Really appreciated the nature experience and walks. And the complimentary bottle of wine for our anniversary. The information centre was excellent and provided essential and helful information.
Whakapapa village was great. With kids it was just as well we took plenty of snack foods that they like, as there aren't any food shops - which is part of its beauty. I loved that there are soo many different walks you can do, as well as the skiing option of course.
Checked in with the team at DOC before doing the Tongariro Crossing .Extremely helpful.Ate at the Ruapehu Rm excellent choice of meals great breakfast range (toaster is slow)cafe great leek soup, High tea in the lounge very memorable .comfortable beds great amenities loved the stay . Great staff
Easy to walk around. Scenery lovely, although we didn't get to see the top of mountain , Doc centre most interesting, and great walks. Drove to ' top of the bruce' and will be back to experience gondola next year.
the Chateau is always a great surprise to see when you turn up the road that leads up to it. You know its there & it maintains it welcoming view right up until you turn that last corner & bang there it is ! Always a welcoming sight after a long drive.
The visitor information Centre were great providing advice and guidance. The walks around the village a good. It is a winter place so in summer a number of the restaurants are closed and for this summer 2018/2019, the construction of the new Gondala at the top of the mountain is a pain with limited access and trails closed till June 2019.
