Located in the heart of Tongariro National Park, Skotel Alpine Resort offers a restaurant, a hot tub and a terrace bar with a fireplace. Most accommodations boast stunning mountain or region views. beautiful views, comfortable bed and beddings were just right, excellent service and beautiful food and they were very flexible allowing us to stay long in the morning while we waited for the rain to stop before leaving the motel to start our hike. the community kitchen was comfortable and it had everything that we need to use. the toilets were so clean and showers just right.
The historical Chateau Tongariro Hotel impresses with its grand architecture and interiors, location in the Tongariro National Park and facilities, which include a 9-hole golf course and a cinema. THe place is amazing, the mountain view is astonishing. The dinner was fantastic, good food, well served.

Ruapehu Retreat is a spacious and self-catering holiday home located in National Park. It is set in a convenient location for guests to explore the Tongariro National Park and wider Ruapehu region. An exceptional, well equipped, spacious and very comfortable villa. One of the best accommodations that we have stayed in. The large log effect, real flame fire in the lounge area with a Christmas tree in the corner of the room made for a very festive and welcoming homely feel. The kitchen area is very well equipped. The beds are comfortable. You won't be disappointed if you decide to stay here. We were sorry to leave.

The restaurant and staff were fabulous beyond description. I honestly can’t say I’ve ever been excited to eat every meal where I’m staying.
Hi, It is better to plan your trip for at least two days. You can enrol your kids to ski school at the nearby school for a longer duration trip so that they learn the art of skiing. Bringing chains with the car will help you to revisit the Whakapapa skiing location often and reduce the commute cost. All in all, it was good to see snow all around especially if you are coming from the northern part of NZ.
Meant to say in my review last night that we had a lovely waitress for dinner, young girl,Lisa? And the main reason we didn't pay for the dinner was because it came 10past10pm, besides one was not eatable.
The staff and food were excellent but the Hotel was understaffed because of "Grab 1" patrons filling the Hotel. The Management should not have allowed the "Grab 1 " to sell more places than the number of staff they had could provide the correct service.
visitor centre so welcoming and helpful about weather forecast, sorting out car permits for leaving our vehicles for 4 days while we do the tongariro northern circuit. beautiful and tidy village, everything was so clean and well sign posted. cafe in the chateau, beautiful food, welcoming, and kept clean with clear rules for COVID. skotel motel was just perfect for our group of 12 trampers doing Tongariro northern circuit was just amazing with perfect weather and all DOC huts were welcoming, comfortable and the views of nature, volcanic landscape, mountains, bushes, scrubs, flowers, rivers, streams, waterfalls, springs, sun, moon, stars in the sky were awe inspiring, precious and irreplaceable. it was so wonderful to only see few people around - huge difference from 2 years ago where it was absolutely packed on the Tongaririo crossing - 4, 000 people on the trail
Nice and calm, but no any supermarkets. Should do some shopping before coming to live here, as it's expensive to buy everything in hotel/resort, as well menu's are not full of many choices. If it's raining, it's not a lot to do, just chilling in your hotels.
The scenery was beautiful, definitely a spot to come for skiing, we weren't able to spend the time enjoying these activities. dinner at the Ruapehu room was delicious, plunge pool was a nice relaxing extra.
Perfect location. Oldie world charm and the staff were attentive. Our dinner was very enjoyable. I had fresh oysters and an amazing sirloin steak. Cocktails and drinks in the lobby lounge were good and quick. The Hotel is not comparable with a modern 4 star hotel. It was built in 1929 and kept it’s style. We will be back!
The room was clean and warm, but could be too hot for those who is sleeping at the top of the double decker bed. The hotel restaurant has a good ambience and the dinner food was delicious.
