There a good facilities in Whitianga, from shops and supermarkets to restaurants. The bars do not stay open late enough for a Saturday night though. We had to leave the first one before 10pm, the last one we tried wouldn't let anyone in after 11pm. There is a nice beach and harbour-side area and other lovely beaches a short drive away. Also a great playground for the kids.
We did not stay in Whitianga for long enough - there was a lot more that we could have done - around Whitianga and the Coromandel. We did go on the Ocean Leopard and that was fantastic - well worth the money. Certainly Whitianga has gone ahead in leaps and bounds - there is a lot of money around the area. The waterways and houses were amazing. If you are looking for beautiful beaches, shells galore, places to see, things to do - then visit Whitianga.
A doggie friendly town with a great shopping centre the town has grown loved the cool shops the locals are lovely and welcoming enjoyed where we stayed enjoyed cooks beach easy accessibility on foot all in one day a good place to go for a break away. Thanks Grant for welcoming us to your lovely camping ground and telling us the places to visit. The hot pools at Whittanga are too expensive $45.00 per person for 1 1/4 hours is a big chunk in the wallet for us so we left it, it turned out they weren't open on Thursdays anyway. We enjoyed Hot Water Beach Whittanga Beach Icecream was beaut a good serve at The Espy Cafe the young chap was lovely also the warehouse and countdown and new world helpful and handy, Had to get a single bottle of rum and coke so best to take your own. Chang Thai worth going to the $10 lunch special 11 - 2.30 pm good value sitting upstairs and viewing the town is awesome.
Whitianga is perfect for a beachy family like ours, we travelled to Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach, New Chums beach, Hahei and Cathedral Cove and loved every minute of it, and nothing is too far away. So much to see and do, with great places to eat and lots of fun things to do.
Beautiful place to visit. Take a boat trip to see the sites around Whitianga down to Cathedral Cove. Drive to Hahei Beach. Can walk to Cathedral Cove. Visit Hot Water Beach & experience the Hot Water coming out of the sand at low tide.
The shops, cafes, and restaurants are within easy, flat walk. The place we found a must do, and so relaxing, is The Lost Spring, geo thermal pools, amazing cocktails, food is fabulous and the staff were great. Will definitely return there. Whitianga has lots of great places to stop at for coffees, and a wine or beer in the afternoon overlooking the water, then spoilt for dinner choices. Best to prebook if its busy.
Very clean and nice modern rooms with modern bathroom and facilities. Bed sheets were nice and comfortable!! Was a nice and cosy place and 2 min across is the beach and easy location to buy food around. Just to know there are two locations for this but the wonderful lady on site took us 1 min down the road to view our room. Good apartment will book again if I ever come to Whitianga again . And close to lost springs 5 min drive .
We loved the quiet, the birds, the chickens, the hiking, the swimming holes, the kitchen facilities, and especially the hospitality of Debbie and Ernst. Great breakfast too, and we loved the fresh eggs and the honey. Forgot to buy some of the honey when we departed, and kicked ourselves when we remembered 100 km down the road.
Everything. This was the most expensive place we stayed in during our trip to New Zealand but it was worth every penny. We could not find fault with it. Every detail was covered. The managers were friendly and helpful.
