Amazing place in the middle of the jungle but respecting nature. The staff is super nice, especially Nico, who even looked after our baby and makes some delicious cocktails (not for the baby :P). There are 3 private beaches really beautiful and quiet, with free SUP and kayaks available. The area of the bar and pool is out of this world, with a privileged view to the sea and bird island but also great vibes and music. The bungalows are simple but very nice and comfortable. The restaurant prepares very healthy food and prices are reasonable. There are free daily shuttles to Playa Estrella. The taxi to Bocas costs 35 usd. Will definitely return to Bird Island!

We loved the islands!! Each one we stayed at had it's own unique vibe. Bocas Town was a bustling place with plenty of restaurants and supermarkets to load up on supplies. We are a vegan family, and found everything we needed. We stayed in an eco lodge near Bluff Beach ( which has gorgeous white sand and crashing waves...not great for swimming) that was a beautiful, serene escape from the busy town. Walking through the wildlife reserve to Bluff Beach was filled with monkeys and jungle bird song. Isla Bastimentos was an island of contrast- dirty, poverty town, filled with locals who have very little, while on the other side of the island, gorgeous stretches of beach with lots of development of private homes happening. The disparity made us uncomfortable. Isla Carenero as well, had a shanty town, garbage strewn everywhere on one side of the little island, but then a very boho, hippy, surfer chic vibe on the other stretch of the island. Gorgeous foot path to the surfer side with stunning views and signs with garbage bins saying keep our island clean. Loved Carenero. Eat at Leaf Eaters and Mukunda and Arts if you want delicious and plentiful plant based food. Over all, the people in Bocas were wonderful, welcoming, accommodating, friendly and doing their best with the growing tourist industry. I hope this area doesn't become so overrun with tourists that it loses its rustic charm and areas of pure serenity and beauty.
Bocas is authentic. Beautiful water, many restaurants, bars, stores, surf lessons.... Tours to take you to any islands as well as a bat cave. Bocas town is lively, other islands offer more relaxation. It's all about what you prefer. We loved coquitos bar and pizza on carenaro. Starfish beach was a nice outing with quite a few beach bar/restaurants. Calm waters.
As a regular hostel user I have never been to a place that advertises itself as a hostel and doesn't have a communal kitchen. This was not flagged up on the Booking.com platform but was said in the pre arrival form, which I only received a few hours before arrival. I had already purchased $50 worth of food which was therefore very difficult to prepare. The manager was less than helpfull though the front of house staff were excellent. This needs to be put in writing on the Booking.com platform. It has obviously been an issue as Bambuda needed to say thus in their pre arrival form. There is very little to do outside of this hostel unless you are able to pay water taxis to run you around. 2 days stay would have been ample
Staying on the island of colon is the best place to stay in Bocas. When you stay on the outside islands you have to take water taxi's and some of the rides are back jaring. But to see one of the best beaches you will ever see requires you take a water taxi to Red Frog Beach. It was one of my favorite parts about visiting the region. But also, don't miss going to Starfish beach and wade in the water with the starfish. Also seeing playa Bluff is a must but be careful about going in the big waves they might take you out to sea. In my opinion the sand at Playa Bluff is the best I have ever seen, a beautiful dark red color and so soft to walk on.
Bocas is a great boho town! Very enjoyable restaurants, shops. The water taxi was a new and awesome experience! Any excursion that offers snorkeling was the best for me. Be sure to take a few snacks and drinks! Also lots of water!!
Too expensive not worthy at all. I was expecting a tropical beautiful beach instead I found a normal beach where I could not even swim as the waves were to high and dangerous. The place where I stayed, Red Frog Beach, is boring and disappointing.
Bocas Town
Beautiful views from the balconies and the two beaches on site are lovely (swimming is season/current dependent). We like to walk and found a number of restaurants past the Ecolodge (10-15 minutes walk). On the walk to the restaurants we saw sloths and howler monkeys. If you go in surf season then expect to walk far to find a swimming spot, but there are some. Slightly expensive but lovely breakfast. We caught the 13:00 bus from the main square in Bocas town which was much cheaper than a taxi!
Bocas Town
Gorgeous new hostel/hotel right on the water (patio is over the water). Shared private room options for multiple adults which was great. Lots of outdoor lounge space - never too crowded. Nice variety of food/drink at the restaurant. On the edge of the 'downtown street' but easily walkable to all restaurants/cafes. Excellent luggage storage options. daily activities coordinated by the staff - can sign up and pay if you opt to join in.
The staff was wonderful. Accommodating, responsive, friendly, and made the trip very enjoyable. Very clean. Sometimes a little noisy (the street and the staff housing? next door to my room) but not the fault of the hotel. Next time will try to face the water. The location was actually great…. just enough out of town to feel more relaxing. Loved Divers! Will definitely be back!
Bocas Town
I really recommend this place, best sunset, nice terrace to have drinks and enjoy the view, the staff Danny and Andre were super friendly and helped me with everything I needed I also took a tour from the hotel to zapatilla so you don’t have to walk, good vibes and nice bar in the second floor best place to stay in bocas ! thank you
The Gran Hotel Bahia is a lovely property located in the heart of Bocas town. It is a historical building with lots of character and an amazing 2nd floor veranda. No, there is no pool, but that is not what this property is pretending to be. The staff was wonderful and we had a great stay.
Bocas Town
Very charming rooms, host, and a cool waterdeck to just relax! The experience of staying across from Bocas town is actually really cool. You have to take watertaxi's back and forth (only 5 min away), and they drive around all night. Really nice stay!
The location is outstanding. The hotel is complete. It offers prices and accomodation for everyones needs. It has a mini supermarket downstairs. The terras is nice and they offer welcome drinks
We liked the quiet location out of Bocas town. The private beach was a good option for swimming and lovely view from our balcony. The front desk staff were helpful with taxi bookings.
