Located in the Amazon rainforest, this hotel features tours to the jungle, a massage spa overlooking the Madre de Dios forest and rooms with hammocks and balconies. Loved the whole idea of getting into a long boat and traveling up the river to the Amazonica. We were greeted with fresh wet towels and a snack and drink on arrival and room (bungalows) are beautiful. The guided tours each day are free and you can pick and choose which ones suit. Food is amazing which is included in tariff. Definitely worth the money.

The amount of unique life in the Amazon, right outside Puerto Maldonado was stunning and our tour guides’ knowledge of everything was so impressive. Did not get to spend much time in town but the beauty and wonder just up the river where we stayed was astounding.
We spent an entire month in Peru. We all agreed that we could have skipped Puerto Maldonado. If we could have left the same day we arrived, we would have, but I had built in an extra day because some times the flights are delayed. I can't think of anything to recommend this city. People should visit Arequipa and Cusco for beauty.
Nice little outpost town on the banks of the Madre de Dios river. Some surprisingly good food and friendly locals. Suggest finding a hotel with A/C unless you;re looking for the 'full experience"
A small town and definately vist the jungles in a lodge stay in the environmentally friendly place and experience. Support the local community . We stayed at www.mishaja.org in their lodge with out TV and electricity in a door and window free, wooden thachted hut . It was an experience with food included and a very knowledgeable guide . Acitivity filled two days and one night stay at the lodge was memorable. Was lucky to see birds, cayman, rodents and insects, snakes, giant spiders. Please understand that you are in nature and may not be able to see everything as it is a natural state. Just enjoy the amazon environment before it is destroyed by us and be a responsible tourist.
I enjoyed the food, especially at La Semilla. It is a hidden gem with good coffee and good food. The people are very friendly. Puerto Maldonado has a varied populace and the city is developing like the wild wild west. People on the streets that I walked were friendly.
Most People use it as a starting point for visiting the rain Forest. If someone Doesnt like to sleep in the rainforest Lodges around you can easily organize trips from here. We spent two nights at puerto maldonado and didnt really discover the city too much. Our focus were the lodges located in the rain forest. You can easily get around as there are loads of tuctucs and taxis. You can find expensive tourist restaurants and cheap restaurants for locals. Enjoy the nature around and don’t spent too much time in the city! Before heading deeper in the jungle I advise to spend one or two nights in puerto Maldonado to get used to the hot tropical weather which might be kind of overwhelming at first.
