Situated in Papeete, Papeete Ferry Locations features city views and free WiFi, less than 1 km from Papeete Ferry Terminal and 1.8 km from Paofai Gardens. we had to have the taxi driver make a call to get someone to let us in. Good thing the driver helped us! Location is very close to the Market, which was the only activity we had time to do so that part was perfect! AC was great, and place was spotless. Host was so nice to exchange money with us so we had some of the local currency to spend at the market.
Papeete town is dreary, grubby, and run down, some out of town OK sightseeing tours available. Beaches dirty and overrated, I would not return for an extended holiday but our 3 day stay was adequate for a break between flight and cruise. Despite emailing our cancellation, we were still charged for our last night post-cruise though we (and all visitors) were obliged to leave Tahiti immediately because of govt order closing borders due to Covid 19 - totally out of our control.
Just stayed here because of a late arriving flight and there were no more flights to Bora-Bora. Decent place to stay—Just wish the air conditioner worked better. Room was extremely hot when we arrived
We visited Papeete & toured Tahiti in 2000 & spent 4 nights there. So this was our 2nd visit. This time we had a few hours on a Sunday walking around in the rain (everything was closed!) off a cruise ship. 4 days later we took the hotel shuttle into town for a few hours of further exploration: There is a lovely blvd which runs along the oceanfront thru town, interesting restaurants, hotels, indoor shopping, architecture there, also Moorea ferry, cruise ships, magnificent yacht harbour. In town, the excellent glass & iron 2-story market with Everything available. Don't miss City Hall & the Assembly & Colonial blogs.
Papeete is not really a destination. You will probably have to spend a night or two here en route to other islands in French Polynesia. Try to make it as short as possible — there are no real sites to see or things to do.
Papeete was rather run down but it was interesting with lots to see and do if you hired a car. It was a city with a strange street set up which was a bit hard to navigate as they kept shifting barriers around. There was lots of rubbish in the streets which was disappointing. The central area was lovely in the evening with the food carts and balmy air, a cool breeze blowing from the harbour full of docked yachts and cruise ships, even a street concert . As I only had a week in the area, I should have stayed in Moorea longer than 2 days, as it was beautiful and easy to get around to the amazing beaches with a car. It was meant to be the rainy season but it hardly rained, the weather was fine but humid so being near the water for swimming and snorkelling was a must. This was difficult in Papeete but easy to do in Moorea.
Papeete is a gem in the heart of the Pacific. It needs to be explored. Give yourself plenty of time and get yourself the deepest pockets, cause it ain't cheap. It is one of the most expensive places. However, it is beautiful.
We appreciated the friendly welcome and vey clean room. Free transportation from the cruise ship and later to the airport were icing on the cake!
