About 90% of excursions were water related activities and if that’s not your passion it’ll take a bit of effort to find nature, culture options. What I didn’t like as a solo traveler is that Viator tours were mainly required a couple/2 person minimim booking. Thankfully booking.com excursions was a life saver.
Most restaurants are closed between 2-5 pm so keep that in mind. I’m not a foodie so I didn’t explore the fine dining options.
Papeete lacks a robust night life, it’s more a “get away from real life” and relax that caters to water sports types. I realized I’m a “city girl” type so after 3 days of chilling I was restless.

Papeete is a dump! We expected more from the French. Very 3rd world, unsafe water, no sidewalks, trash and graffiti abounds, bums begging, dirty drainage canals, and for this you are charged extremely high prices for everything! Bora bora wasn't much better... Moorea was nice. We took a cruise to the Marquesas and Tuamotus which were still unspoiled and gorgeous with genuine natives. The islands are stunning, but just go to Hawaii.

Papeete itself is very bland and the market is over-rated (in my opinion). I wished I had planned properly and spent few nights at Moorea, but I didn't know what to expect. Rookie mistake 🫣
Lessons learnt.
Despite mixed advice from the locals, I felt safe walking at night, which is a positive outlook for the Island 🙏
As many reviewers have mentioned, Papeete is only a good stopover to the other islands 🏝 😀
The 2 highlights of my stay was the day trip to Moorea, doing the safari excursions and the cultural night at the InterContinental Hotel.

Over-all it was great.
Over-all it was great. We spent 7 days on Tahiti, plus a half-day excursion on Moorea. 5 days on Tahiti would probably be enough. Next time we will visit a couple of others islands for a few days. Good food and shopping in Papeete.

Spending a day or two there would have been enough, there was obvious poverty, with multiple homeless people. Not what I expected at all.
I hired a car to visit the sites, but when I was driving around, everything looked closed, or uninviting. As a solo tourist, this wasn't the best place to visit. If I had known better, I would have book a night & visited the different islands.

The people are what make it so good.
The people are what make it so good. Very polite people who appear to be honest and kind. The shopping mall across the road from the Hilton was a wonderful place with a food hall and a good supermarket.
We enjoyed a day trip to Moorea and a taxi trip around that island. Also the 5-hour Tahiti group trip and the boat trip. I did not do any snorkelling as I do not swim and I thought perhaps an activity in knee-high water could have been included in the boat trip.
The Museum of the Islands was a good activity.

The building is brand new, modern minimal design, the rooms are excellent, seems like it’s the one and only in Tahiti. The roof top bar and restaurant are the best and cool spots for both tourists and locals. If you are looking for hippest places to hangout, this is it. Although they are not party of the hotel. Breakfast omelet is excellent!! But still a bit over priced since the buffet is quite limited, $25/head.

Carlos picked us up from the airport despite our plane getting in after 1-30am.
He delivered us to the apartments and provided a good explanation.
Also dropped us to and picked us up from our cruise ship and finally he dropped us out to the airport when we left Papeete.
There is an Ezy Market shop with a good range of packaged food and pre=prepare meals, alcohol, drinks etc within 400m.

The grounds were wonderful and so was the swimming pool. I loved eating breakfast over looking the beach, superb views. The receptionist was very helpful when I arrived and arranged all taxis and airport transfers as requested

The hotel is really great if you need somewhere to stay that is close to the airport. Lovely swimming pool, friendly staff, and amazing views out across towards Moorea.
