The vibe, it was out of the blue. A mixed of everything, sun, sea and sand. Just watching the surfers glide makes you happy and stress free. The food, seafoods galore and pako salad makes you forget your diet.
Baler is a very long drive from Manila and part of the point is really experiencing this gorgeous drive. Baler itself is very quiet, especially post-pandemic, and you mainly go there to surf. It's a nice place to relax as well, in which case it's best to pick one of the resorts on Sabang Beach or one of the nicer ones away from the main tourist area. There are some hidden food gems here too, like Kusina Luntian, but fewer now since the pandemic. No night life like La Union, but that's the point. Seems to be no more hostel culture either since the closing of The Circle Hostel due to the pandemic. It's also a jumpoff point to experience the natural beauty of the region, which is very large and isolated.
Daguisit Rock Formation is very nice. We went there twice. We weren't able to go back to Mother falls because the water was still too strong after typhoon Paeng hit Baler. Balete tree is also a good tourist attraction. Also the hanging bridge and Museo de Baler. We did not try surfing at Sabang beach beacuse we have little kids aged 2 and 4. I strongly advice you to get a good guide so you could make the most out of your time during your tour. Try Kubli bistro if you want to eat out. I would like to mention also that the INC chapel in Baler is very beautiful.
Baler is OK, apart from the beach, nothing much to do. The sandy beach was not pleasant, rubbish was everywhere which is a shame. The community should maintain cleanliness so the visitors will appreciate it.
Nice place to visit especially if you want to be close to nature. Our favorite place is Digisit beach and mother falls (which is already outside Baler but a must place to visit). Crossing the river through hanging bridge is also a great experience for us. The river and the beaches are also clean. And the locals are also generally nicer compared with the locals of other provinces which we have visited. We can't wait to come back and bring our family and we will definitely come back within the year.
It does not have white beaches - main beach looks more like a massive concrete dike, that is not illuminated during the night and many hotels "invaded" the foot walk, so if not careful during the night one can be really seriously injured. I hope some day the local authorities will get to learn what is tourist infrastructure and why they have to invest in it. It has no clean water - waves are too big and the black sand does not contribute to the cleanliness... BUT, but it's a place with charm, with small street's on the back of the beach alley, with cosy coffee shops, restaurants, places to sit. I guess surfers like it for the waves... I keep going there because of the motorbiking rotes that one can do around, mountain passages to reach it and the great road just besides the sea shore, when heading South and where stunning views of the sea, rocks and white sand beaches can blow your mind.
The food was excellent! Everything that was being served to us was fresh. My family loved their kilawin, fish fillet, and buttered chicken. I also appreciate the staff for being so accommodating. They catered to our needs immediately. The environment was so serene and I loved how accessible the hotel was to the beach-it was just about 20 to 30 steps away.
Excellent place to stay and by far the cleanest hotel and rooms in Baler. Staff very friendly and accommodating with our request. Good ocean view from the upper balcony (hear the waves).Beach is close by and great pizza and Japanese restaurant nearby. We'll be back for sure.
Baler
Everything! Bang for the buck place, comfortable stay, hospitable and friendly hosts. Will definitely book the place again when we go back in Baler Clean room, bed, linens and pillows. Aircon works great during summer. There is also an available fan in our room.
Rooms are nice, staff were very helpful and accommodating, the rooftop terrace has a fantastic view of Baler ! Sabang Beach isn't far away, maybe a 5-10 minute tricycle ride.
