This little hotel was the highlight of my stay in Palawan. The owners are a Filipino family. They are small business entrepreneurs and they have been open for less than a year. For this alone, you should stay here. To support Filipino small business and encourage the prosperity of the Filipino people. But that is not all. There is a happiness from the staff and the family. A real happiness. You can tell they are truly good people. There is no phony hospitality. They truly are interested in you having a good stay. The location is perfect. Right off the main road, where all the main dining establishments are located. Just a short walk leads you to their fine little hotel, tucked away in a quiet corner right at the heart of the city. The room was clean, the airconditioner was cold, and the showers are hot. There was free cold water and free sachets of coffee (along with free hot water). This is not to be downplayed, as most hotels would certainly try to charge you for water and coffee. Not only did the owners invite us to join on their family birthday dinner celebration, but they spent time talking with us and sharing their story as well. I met the owners father, Seraphine, who was a fine man at the age of 91. He has traveled all over the world and all throughout Philippines. A true gem of a man. Finally, as we were leaving, I cannot believe it. The owner actually personally drove us to our next destination. He tried to refuse any payment, which of course we insisted to give. So long story short, I implore you to stay here. Support local businesses. Support kind and happy families. Help good Filipino people attain prosperity. It is the least we can do as tourists.

It is - of course - not a 5-star hotel. With that in mind, I would say the value for money is very good. There's a swimming pool that's clean, especially compared to other hotels in Puerto Princesa (we've stayed at several hotels here in town in the past). The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was closed at the time of our visit (except for breakfast). But Baker's Hill (one of the highlights in Puerto Princesa) is within walking distance. Definitely worth visiting. Not just because of the dining options. There's also a park and breathtaking views of the countryside and the sea. The room is functional, the bathroom spacious, with a hot shower (once you figure out how the heater works :-). The TV doesn't work, but the internet is OK. The aircon works well and there are several sockets, for example to charge a mobile phone. I don't want to rate the following as either positive or negative: The rooms are located directly in front of the pool. And there may be drinking and smoking going on by the pool, even at night. I can't say it bothered us, but it's perhaps worth mentioning. Another potential issue could be that the hotel is a bit far from the center of Puerto Princesa. But if that doesn't matter to you, you can ignore it. And of course, there are tricycles and multicabs available. So you're not "cut off from the rest of the world." It didn't matter to us though, since we arrived in our own car (the parking lot is spacious, by the way). And the remote location also has its advantages. The surroundings are peaceful and quiet. We were very satisfied and would stay here again anytime.

    Worst public ride rates, not regulated, mostly a rip-off. The streets are unsafe with so many potholes, no street cleaners to keep the dust away. I appreciate the vehicles stopping when a person crosses the street.

    The only point of living in this town is to take a tour of the underground river. The city itself is not made for people, and especially not for tourists. The only tourist street is Rizal Street, there are a few nice restaurants there, and that's it - there is nothing else to do in the city, nowhere to walk.

    The underground caves are wonderful.

    The underground caves are wonderful. If you enjoy craft brewed beers, then a visit to Palawena Brewery is a must. The brewmaster, Noah, is friendly and extremely knowledgeable . You have to try the Honey Brown Ale !

    I have stayed outside city in October 2024 at Astoria Resort...

    I have stayed outside city in October 2024 at Astoria Resort. I loved that visit. My visit in March 2025 was in Puerto Princesa itself. I was unsure about staying in the city, I'm a country boy. Stayed first few days at Aziza Paradise Hotel. I can recommend this. Not central, but close to Robinson Mall if you want to shop. otherwise has live music nightly. Next stay on that visit, Best Western Ivywall. This hotel was near airport and many attractions historical and gastronomic. I was not in any way disappointed with staying within the city for second time in Palawan. History mayb'e not everyones idea of vacation "fun" but I enjoyed visit to Palawan WW2 museum. Hey I'm an oldie myself ! And so to quote McArthur from WW2..... I will return !

    This location is NOT for the city slickers and resort...

    This location is NOT for the city slickers and resort regulars. It is for those adaptive enough to know that not all conveniences will be available. If you love adventure, slight adversity, navigational challenges, then this is the trip for you. To get to Puerto Princesa, you will have to fly in from either Manila or Cebu, Philippines. The town is located 5 hours south of the busy El Nido. If you book a hotel here, just do it for the night, as you will want to venture out to the rest of this long island. We loved the weather, location, sights, and the food. Plus, the people of the Philippines are so welcoming.

    Canvas Boutique Hotel offers a delightful stay with its artistic ambiance, excellent service, and convenient location that's just across the airport. I used the reservation mainly to ensure I get to my flight on time as I was flying from Puerto Princesa to Boracay. I was enchanted by the artistic decoration of the hotel and my room. Plus the restaurant at the hotel is a good place to unwind and catch a deliciously prepared meal (roasted chicken, san miguel light, blueberry cheesecake. The attendant was very courteous and hospitable.

    I really enjoyed my stay, the hotel is a wonderful family run place (I believe it is family run), the staff were extremely friendly, professional and kind. This is great basic hotel that has all you need. On my check-out day I was extremely exhausted from the previous day and slept in which meant missing the breakfast time slot, however, the staff made me breakfast and even shared lunch with me. I’d definitely stay at Mariner’s Pension House again when I am back in the Philippines and Puerto Princesa.

    I liked everything about my room for the value it was great as anyone knows when your traveling Especially solo traveling the only thing important is that you have an average comfy bed and a shower that works :) and the property had just that. So the hotel was a 10/10 for me :) I will recommend to others if I know any future travellers that are heading puerto princesa :) and the staff are all great people 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
