Casa do Vale da Mula is located in Almeida. Guests can enjoy the free WiFi throughout the property. Sincerily, my experience on Casa do Vale da Mula was top notch! I was already with great expectations based on the house's presentation in Booking, but upon arrival, the expectations were easily exceeded. The house is fantastic, has a great decoration, and it makes one feel integrated in the little village of Vale da Mula. A buch of interesting locations around the house are also very easy to reach. And the silence... this is a house that you should consider if you really need a serious rest and to calm down from the hectic daily live in the city. For sure I will be back!
Hotel in Aldea del Obispo
This 18th century converted star-shape fort is set on the outskirts of Aldea del Obispo and next to the border with Portugal. An amazing hidden gem. Booked originally as it was on the way to Portugal but it soon became apparent it would appear in our virtual scrapbook. Extremely comfortable and an amazing location.

As I already said, Almeida is a 17/18 century fortified place, a candidate to UNESCO's World Heritage, together with other Portuguese places. As a result many facilities, like the Military Museum and the centre of investigation of fortified places, were created as well as addicional touristic support. There are several restaurants out side the wall, which provide generally Portuguese traditonal dishes, specially the bacalhão, cod fish, and sometimes goat and lamb. If you enter in the centre of Portugal coming from Spain, Fuentes de Onõro / Vilar Formoso it's only 10 km away, so don't miss it.
I arrived a bit late so missed the museum etc as it was all closed, but will be back with my wife as there is a lot of history in the area and i love history and historic sites. It looks very nice so will be back. I ate at the Muralha hotel and the food was good.
The most beautiful fortified village of Portugal. Nice place to explore on foot, not only the inner city but as well the unique layout of the huge walls. Worth a thorough visit I will not disappoint any visitor
Historical village inside an old fortress. Worth visiting. Don't miss the fortress walls and the military museum. There are two good restaurants inside the village walls: "1810" (mainstreet) and "Granitus" (just outside the village main entrance). Small village (circa 1500 people). You can also try the main hotel and "Reverim" for tapas and traditional beer. Very easy to get around, by foot or by car.
Almeida is super place for a visit, especially when combined with The Border Castles Tour, Even if you're not into Portuguese history, you will find lots to interest you. We enjoyed our walk around the star-shaped fortifications and followed it up with a stroll around this small, delightful gem of a town. All low key, friendly and uncommercialized.
Almeida
Rural location - quiet! Modern apartment with full facilities. Kitchen had everything we needed. WiFi was pretty good. Plenty of room. Pellet stove was a bit tricky to operate, but I figured it out eventually. Great place from which to explore the numerous wonderful Castelo villages. Buy your groceries before getting here, or you'll have to drive to Almeida or Aldea Del Obispo, Spain.

The hotel is old fashioned but very practical and good for the price. It has a free parking and it is just 1-2min drive from the fortified town. The breakfast is simple, but enough for a good day start.
