Offering free Wi-Fi and parking, Hotel O Novo Príncipe is in Almeirim, a town in the countryside near the Tagus River. It provides modern rooms, a 24-hour reception and games room with pool tables. With garden views, Casas Herdade do Convento da Serra is located in Almeirim and has free WiFi. I gave a 10 for everyting. It was basic, but that's what we chose for. The price was very good and we got everyting that we thought this price would give us. Upon check-in, we received a remote for the gate near the street. This way, we didn't have to wake up or keep up anyone to let us in late at night. The room was spacious for the price. 2 single beds with 3 good pillows per bed. The bathroom too was spacious with enough shelf space to put out stuff. The water could be turned up really hot. In the beginning, we were a bit afraid of what we would get, as we entered the gate to a farm. But from the moment we were checked in, all doubts went away. Location is about 5 à 6 km outside of Almeirim city. You would need a car to get around (which we rented at the airport via TurisPrime). Roads are generally in very good condition. Watch out when you take the highway in Portugal. Some still have to toll booths with tickets and payment, but other highways are automatically checked. For those, you'd have to register your car/licence plate when you enter the road the first time.

Almeirim isn't the place where I would recommend people to go to. It's not really touristy. It has some nice spots, but I suppose that's more for people from there (some parks etc.) Although, if your holiday would pass in the neighborhood, why don't you get to Almeirim around 12, park your car on the parking of the bull fighting rink, and get some delicious food at restaurant 'O Pinheiro' just across the street? Most things on the menu could be chosen per dose or half dose. I can advise half dose per person and you'd still have leftovers. We were with 6 and ordered 3 doses. 1 of these three we packed up fully to bring home as left over. Should you pass by Almeirim in the morning, head to Pani Tejo (bakery) for some breakfast. My favourite 2 paposecos (sort of sandwiches) with fiambre (ham) and a galão (Portugese version of latte). Lastly, Almeirim is located in one of the most fertile soils of Portugal and brings grapes for delicious wines. A visit to some of the wineries and you'd have to watch out that you don't buy too much for your luggage.
