Pousada Castelo de Alvito is a renovated 15th century castle in the village of Alvito, with superb gardens and a swimming pool. Alvito was similar to my past wonderful experiences in other Pousadas of Portugal that I have stayed in. The staff is professional and spoke English well enough to answer all my questions. The atmosphere of staying in a refurbished castle is great. Plenty of free parking onsite. I had a great dinner and the free breakfast included bacon and eggs cooked to order along with the typical buffet of beverages, fruits, breads, cheese, meats, yogurt, cereal etc.
Hospedaria A Varanda offers free WiFi and rooms with air conditioning in Alvito. There is a restaurant serving Portuguese cuisine, and free private parking is available. The owner Ernesto was super friendly and willing to help us all the time. Great breakfast..we ate a lot and super yummy!!
Set within a 24-acre property, Horta da Vila offers a rustic setting in the white-washed Alvito village, halfway between Évora and Beja cities. The whole visit was excellent, very quiet, comfortable bed and very clean bathroom. Staff so friendly and breakfast really good, wonderful homemade Tomato jam and Fig jam. Super homemade cinnamon cake. Will return there when in the area again.
Set in Vila Nova, 38 km from Portel, Monte da Serra offers free bikes and free WiFi. A TV with DVD player, private bathroom with a hairdryer, and a kitchen with dishwasher are offered in certain... The host kindness ( Paula was wonderful) The view The lovely (and huge) pool - including the amazing floating pillows The quietness in the property The house size The wi-fi signal is very strong (usable even at the pool)
Alvito would be my first choice if I was writing a book and wanted some peace and quiet. We ate in the Pousada resturaunt and the meal was excellent, good service and beautifully cooked. We are not a young couple and have traveled the world and this stay was one we definitely will remember with fond memories and a desire to return again.
Fantastic converted castle hotel with views of surrounding countryside. Lovely drive to it with fields of olive groves and vine. One of the best places we ever visited. Not for those looking for a lively town or an evening or even a day. It is dead quite all the time except when there is a festival. A place for completely switching off. Only 2 restaurants to choose from in the evenings.
Very friendly and warm staff, always helpful and ready. The ancient castle has been converted into a hotel, so one gets to sleep inside a castle! Rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast was good and there was a fair amount of choices, including local products. On a given day, the hotel had few guests, so we were offered breakfast in the room, which was a surprise!
Nice and quiet but not far to walk to have a drink in the nice little town of Alvito.
