Featuring exclusive direct access to the sea and a terrace, Vila Cais da Gaivota is a villa, set in Caniçal. The property features views of the Atlantic Ocean and is 20 km from Funchal. View, quiet, close to several points of interest. Of the beaten path. We arrived in the middle of the night and Lina waited for us at the house. There waited some wine, crackers and fruit for us as a midnight snack. We felt very welcome.
Located in Ponta de São Lourenço, Madeira Island, Quinta do Lorde Resort - Hotel – Marina is a 5-star resort offering luxurious accommodation and thoughtful services. I love the place, very nice stay, everything was great - accomodation, people, sea pool, overview, calm. But the weather at east is more vindy and cloudy than at southwest in main holiday places.
Located 5 km from Sao Lourenco Point, Apartamento Freitas provides accommodation with a bar, a terrace and room service for your convenience. Free WiFi is offered. Perfect scenery . Lovely staff and restaurant underneath. Some noise from boat yard but overall a wonderful place.
I liked everything about the place! There is a shuttle bus service to funchal which is very convenient. Staffs were really friendly and helpful. Water was too cold for swimming around this time (early may) but still good to sit down by the beach and enjoy the view and the sun. There is a cafe called the captain's within the resort, I highly recommend trying the "grilled octopus" from the menu. The very best dish we've eaten in madeira. There are other activities within the resort like kayaking, whale watching, snokerlig, etc. You can hike on the hills surrounding the resort for a better view of the coast. The room was really spacious and comes with a balcony where you can ask for ashtray to smoke. Some rooms have an astonishing view from the balcony and I happened to be the lucky one to have a such room. Oh my God, I must have enjoyed so much, I never write this much on the review. I highly highly recommend this choice! A true 5 star experience.
Locals are helpful and genuinely friendly. The competition to cater for visitors is fierce, which makes for high standards and good prices. Just do not let the car hire companies rip you off. I stood my ground at the airport, and reduced my charges by 250euro. If everyone does the same, they will have less room to manoeuvre. Although its 30 kilometers from Funchal its a pleasant drive on well built roads, if you like hustle and bustle this is not your place, if you like the sea and refreshing walks by the coast i recommend it highly.
We have not been to the city of Canical - but we stayed at Quinta da Lorde (which was really nice) and had a great walk around the islands at the far Eastern end of Madeira. Worth the 2.5 hours hike on PR8.
A great fishing port with lots of history. Quieter than Funchal with a much more local flavor. Easy to access and get around, with good hiking not far away. Buses to other towns leave about once an hour, so plan that in advance if you don't want to spend the money on taxis.
This town has few amenities and is down market. It is a port in the shadow of Machico for being a place to visit. We couldn't find anywhere we wanted to eat or drink. There was not even a decent shop. We had to get bus to Machico
