Situated in Serra da Estrela Nature Park’s mountains, this design hotel offers mountain-view rooms with amenities including an LCD TV. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. Actually we got a free upgrade to the second hotel of the group Burel Mountain Hotels, the 5* Casa de São Lourenço, which is 1km away. As we initially wanted to stay at 4* Casa das Penhas Douradas, we went there for a visit and for lunch at the hotel restaurant. The hotel manager guided us through the hotel before lunch. Everybody super friendly! The interior design of that mountain hotel is unique! Wonderful! We loved the restaurant, nice service and delicious dishes with a little touch of gastronomic kitchen! Great! We will book next time...

Located near Serra da Estrela, this 250-year old manor house has historic furnishings and artistic accessories. Each themed room is a reminder of older way of life. - The patio with the swimming pool, with a unique mountain view. Best way to relax with a book and a glass of wine staring at the dark tree tops on the high mountain. The church bells ring every now and then. Unique feeling, serene and breathtaking. 😌 - The house itself and especially the dining room. It's full of gorgeous antique things, art and portraits. Gives a feeling of a very old mansion full of history. - The location - close to everything, right in Manteigas city centre, many restaurants around and great views - The owner is the sweetest person, ready to help with anything. - Baby friendly 😁 We first came there more than a year ago, a family of 2. This was the second time and we came with a baby of 11 months. The patio is big and safe for crawling, good crib and baby chair, all you need for small trip with a baby. - the breakfast was very pleasant. - There's also a fireplace room, there's billiards and some games. Looks extremely cosy. I hope to once come there in winter, with fireplace on and the Serra covered with snow ❄️😊

This granite cottage is located in a rural area less than 5 minutes’ drive from the centre of Manteigas Municipality. Location in the mountains! Beautiful views. Clean swimming pool. Fun donkeys on property. Grounds were lovely, fruit trees, flowers. Old farm but rooms and interior were very nice. Our hostess spoke only Portuguese, but we managed to understand one another! Clean room and bathroom. Nice breakfast served. Glad we found this place instead of just driving through the national park.
Manteigas
Located in Manteigas, in the middle of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Casa do Comendador offers accommodation in a house with a refined decoration combining art and comfort. A marvelous gem of a mixed colonia (Macao) / Portuguese rich furnished old merchants house. We got the Family Twin Rooms with Bathroom over a pass-through which was in fact only used by us. Breakfast was great, too. A fascinating stylish mountain retreat. And the natural swimming pool was used and loved by our kids

This place was such a pleasant surprise, despite a couple of white knuckle moments navigating the rather narrow and winding road leading down to the town from the main mountain road. The roads in Manteigas are much narrower than what we’re used to, but it’s relatively easy to get around if you take it slow. Enjoyed some excellent local cheese, charcuterie and wine at Queijaria Manteigas. Don’t miss the tour of the Burel Woolen factory, which is very interesting. Their gift shop has something for everyone.
Fantastic location surrounded by the mountains of the Serra da Estrela, with amazing views along the glacier valley of the Zezere river. Lots of well marked walking trails available, anyone interested in mountain walks should visit the information pavillion by the main roundabout. Eating out options can be a bit limited, especially for vegans and vegetarians.
Manteigas is a mountain town and is beautiful in its location. You are surrounded by so many different varied walks and the scenery is breathtaking. We saw goats and shepherds needing them and it was an idyllic scene. What Manteigas lacks is good restaurants and if we had been there for more that two days we would have struggled to find variety. The best one was Berne restaurant in the Hotel Berne where we had a really tasty prawn risotto.
Nice little town with cultural heritage like the burel factory and a few scenic spots like the glacier valley. Good for hiking, easy routes with great sceneries. Food is nice. Good place to lodge when traveling among neighboring areas.
Nature around the village of Manteigas is fabulous. In the summer, you can spend the entire week there walking trails, hiking the mountains or mountain baking. People are very friendly. Recommend staying in Casa d'Avenida.
Visited in summer, so no snow! But nice to be high in the mountains and the cooler weather. Had we stayed longer we would have definitely gone for a hike. Manteigas is a resort town, but nature is all around. Town has a good visitor information center and quite a selection of restaurants and hotels. But we stayed at a farm close by, Quinta de Leandres. It was a good choice!
The location and building were wonderful. Loved the used of wool on the interpretation of the uses in the hotel and rooms. Very unique and beautifully done. The breakfast were varied and had a lot of choice and they accommodated my gluten and lactose free intolerances brilliantly. The staff were very efficient. We were also able to walk out of our hotel onto a walking route which took us to a look out point ascending 700 metres. This area is great for walking and tranquility.
We were lucky to get wonderful room in the hotel. We initially planned to get Panoramic Suite for the romantic getaway but missed it and booked Deluxe room. We've been provided with Maria Keil Panorama which in fact has the best location and view in the hotel which we liked a lot. They also have very good variety of dishes in the menu. Everything is very tasty. Interesting and beautiful design.
Cleanliness, staff really friendly and helpful despite Covid crise, area around the hotel was really beautiful and calm, amazing place to recharge from the madness of the city and from work. We had a massage and it was wonderful, amazing feeling in the end, the masseurs have amazing hands, I was so calm and light when it finished. Food was amazing as well, and with loads of options. We will be back.

This is a pretty house converted into a hotel in the beautiful little mountain town of Manteigas. It's a perfect place to explore the Parque Natural Serra da Estrela from, with stunning mountain views in a very quiet location surrounded by nature. The near-by wool factory is a pretty cool to walk-through (no charge).

The rooms are very clean and elegantly decorated, with a combination of old Portuguese architevture and shick modern design. Breakfast was great and the Manteigas is beautiful. Elsa (the owner) is funny and welcoming and equipped with an abundance of travel knowledge about portugal and is more than happy to share it!
Manteigas
The appartement is lovely and cosy. Kitchen is well equipped and if you don't want to cook, Manteigas had quite a few restaurants. We did some hikes and to some senic spots in the mountains. Thanks to the swimming spots of our host Lina even our teenage daughters had the time of their lives.
Fantastic Breakfast and very clean, spacious and comfortable rooms with a beautiful view of the mountain and the little Manteigas town. The breakfast buffet is also a very good spread with plenty of options and all the rooms are very warm and comfortable.
Excellent stay, completely recommend. The staff are extremely friendly and always willing to recommend something to do. The deco in the hotel is beautiful, with their wool products in display. I particularly loved the attention to detail.
Manteigas
The nicest place we stayed in Portugal. The breakfast was fantastic, our room was great and the bed super comfortable. The owner was very hospitable and knowledgeable about the area. We would go back there without hesitation.

Lovely and cozy house, very tastefuly decorated. The location is great, close enough to Manteigas, but far enough to be very quiet and with a great view. Beatriz was super friendly and improved our stay.
