We loved everything about the property.
From the moment we stepped away from the car and seeing Filip walking out of the house welcoming us to his home with a warm smile.
First time this happened to us in our 4 months of travelling through Europe and Morocco using hotels and Airbnbs.
Such a nice feeling of true hospitality compare to the
many un personal “lock box” properties we encountered in our travels.
To have this kind of hotel hospitality is something Airbnb will never achieve.
Filip helped us with our bags and invited us to his lobby where we were treated to a glass of smooth port produced by his neighbour.
The high mountain side location of the property is fantastic. It offers a 180 degrees view down on the Douro Valley with superb sunrises and sunsets.
We could see the river cruises flowing down the river.
The rooms were sparkling clean and the breakfast offered was mostly from the local food producers.
On top of all this Filip succeeded in getting us a restaurent reservation despite our late arrival.

The village of Mesao Frio was a long steep walk from our accommodation Imaginario d'El-Rei but was well worth it. We ate in the local family restaurant Atasca Do Zequinha which was run by a brother and sister. It was right at the top the hill and was almost like going into their own home. The food was excellent along with the local wines and you were made to feel part of the family. We enjoyed it so much that we returned again for our second night.

Mesao Frio is a small, quaint town in the Douro hills at the western end of Portuguese wine country. A small number of charming restaurants, nice people and vineyards abound. Great base for exploring the Upper Douro and Portugal's fantastic wine country.

Almost impossible to find - no sign, no house number.
Almost impossible to find - no sign, no house number. When I entered, I thought I was going into someone's living room. Didn't look like an inn/B&B. The owner was smoking and the entire place smelled awful. His daughter was ironing. Very odd. Had to walk up flight of stairs with luggage. Breakfast was minimal, we had to wait for bread delivery. Bathroom was tiny and shower was too.
We stayed in 10 different places this trip and this was the most expensive and the worst of all of them. Very disappointed.
We spent over 2 hours trying to find this place. A elderly woman selling cherries by the roadside was finally able to get us there. It was Sunday and by the time we found place, no place was open for dinner. Grade of F.
Nestled in the vineyards and olive trees with views over the valley. Spacious rooms, meticulously and tastefully decorated with attention to the small things down to fresh oranges, yummy cookies and port in the room. Super comfy beds. Very welcoming and cozy. Dinner was superb and presented beautifully. Thanks to Cristiano who was always available to ensure our stay was perfect which truly was the highlight of a three week vacation in Portugal.
The hotel is in a very nice location, though further away from the main "towns" of the region. All the common areas are excellent, the heated pool a real treat, AMAZING breakfast and something worth mentioning, they offer many indoor activities like board games and a pool table (important when the weather is not the best like in our case). Everyone is extremely polite and helpful! We loved our stay there!
Mr. Baradas, the host, is exceptionally kind. He helped us with our luggage, he gave us some valuable information from the Douro region and its Quintas. And he even gave us the option to choose between different rooms. The hotel is very well clean. It has a beautiful view, free/easy parking, and comfortable beds. We had an excellent stay there and a very good night of sleep. Thanks a lot for everything!
Every room has a fantastic view of the Douro River! The casa was a great base for us to explore the Douro region from. It is also a short walk from Mesão Frio, which has good options for cafes and dinner. Our host couldn’t have been nicer and went the extra mile to be sure we were comfortable, including having his English-speaking son on hand to make check-in easy. The daily breakfast was delicious!
This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. Everyone working there is so friendly and the service is excellent. Breakfast a la carte, super affordable dinner options and the premises are an absolute dream. We had a birthday celebration and they were full of unexpected details and little extra tokens.
Plus: Becas, the house dog, is our new favorite dog!
Everything is excellent at this hotel/restaurant/winery. Stunning location with a panoramic view of the Douro, super friendly staff, great food and a really good (mainly local) wine selection.
Dinner menu changed every night giving us the opportunity to taste a variety of beautifully cooked dishes.
And the wine tasting tour with Pedro was fun and educational.
The vineyard was located high on the hill near the village of Mesão Frio, with an open vista of the Douro Valley. The environment is tranquil and natural, surrounded by plantations and with a swimming pool to take dips in the hot summer weather. The owners/staff were fantastic, especially Senhor Carlos who was friendly, humble, and happy to help with anything.
We had an amazing stay. The room was large, with all facilities. The room, common areas and the whole property were spotless clean. Several outdoor spaces to rest and enjoy a glass of wine. Within a 10-15 minutes walk you are in the village of Mesao Frio with services and restaurants. The location is great to explore the Alto Douro Vinhateiro region
The hotel was amazing! very nice rooms, clean and comfy. the family room was great with lots of board games to play. we were surprised to find out that there is an indoor pool and gym (good surprise (; ). The restaurant was very good! great food at dinner and also at breakfast. And last, the view from the hotel is amazing!
The hotel is located in a picturesque location. The building is filled with family history, which creates a unique flavor. The view from the window is very picturesque. We also really enjoyed breakfast; it took place in a wonderful dining room.
Probably my favorite stay in Portugal! Everything about this place was exceptional! Great location, THE BEST views of Douro Valley, courteous staff, delicious breakfast delivered right to the door... What else can you ask for?! 😊
Boutique hotel with great service. The attention to details in decoration and amenities makes you feel luxury. Super friendly hosts and limited amount of guests makes you feel like home. 😀
Quinta da Veiga was the hotel we stayed at not the above mentioned. The accommodations, meals, view and staff were spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
