Spectacular views. Remote, but only 15 minutes from basic stores & a few restaurants. Staff was helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was nice with classic European meats and eggs cooked to order, fresh fruit, etc. also had access to charcuterie, wine, sodas as needed. Nice to have access to this as the staff is gone after 5ish. Obrigado Elvira for all of your advice on the area!

The Casal da Viúva was an amazing place to stay. The hosts are extremely welcoming! We arranged to have dinner there, and the two of them made us a great home-cooked meal. The breakfast spread was excellent. We got to hear stories of wine production in the Doura Valley, got a tour of their personal collection of historical wine making and farming implements, and had a very enjoyable time. Highly recommended!!

Great place to stay in Duoro Valley, right in the middle of everything. Very friendly, helpful staff that went over & above to make us comfortable. Smaller family-owned winery that is in the process of making great improvements for guests. Would definately stay here again if in the area.

We traveled in Portugal and Spain for 2 weeks - this was the BEST place we stayed. The place is in a quaint little town in the wine country - there's not much in the town itself, but that's not a problem since you wouldn't want to leave outside this place anyway! The vineyard was gorgeous, filled with wine grapes and fruit trees of many kinds. The lovely lady who runs the place - she was the sweetest person ever. She runs the place impeccably and so efficiently. The property is old in a very good way - rooms were smaller with lower ceiling but that's expected in a older houses. It was cozy and very clean. The pool on the property was very clean and well-maintained. And the breakfast was absolutely fabulous - the same lady who runs the place also whipped up the best eggs for our family. Everything at the table tasted so fresh and delicious. Many of the fruits were straight from the orchard. The town is small and not a lot of restaurants, but there were bunch at the next town, which is 5 min drive away. We had the best meal at the small restaurant that offered a lot of local dishes and wine from the region. This was supposed to be our quick stop and we only booked for one night - our family requested that we stay at least 3 days next time we come back. It was really wonderful.
