Overlooking the marina and Guadiana River, Alojamento Baixa Mar offers a prime location in Vila Real de Santo António. All rooms have balconies, and free WiFi access is featured in the public areas. Located in the centre of Vila Real de Santo António, Villa Marquez offers air-conditioned double or twin rooms. It includes a panoramic terrace with river view. Conveniently located between the train station, the coach station, and the town centre, this is a clean, well-equipped, and inexpensive place to stay, including access to a common dining room with refrigerator as well as to a terrace offering a splendid view over the rooftops of VRSA. Certainly more than can reasonably be expected for the modest price. Notwithstanding the Covid-19 situation, and always respecting the rules of social distancing, the friendly hosts, César Augusto and Valentina, made me feel at home and provided excellent advice on local restaurants and cafés, as well as on things to do in and around VRSA. Obrigadíssimo.

Vila Real is a good town to relax and take it easy for a few days, or even weeks. There's no wild night life to speak of and the pace of life is slow, orderly and leisurely. There's a long park along the Guadiana River which divides Portugal from Spain. The Spanish city of Ayamonte is visible across the river, and accessible by ferry in ordinary times (not now, during the Corona hysteria). At the end of the park and past the Fishermen's harbour, one can walk or bicycle for another half hour along a pine forest to the sea. At that point, there are some restaurants. Another half hour bike ride through the dunes will bring you to Monte Gordo beach: very pretty, windy & "out there".
Beautiful Hotel! Staff was great! I had issues with the toilet leaking the entire stay. It was fixed the next night however it still leaked and dripped...I reported it and was told that the seal was replaced and it takes a while for it to form and settle into place.
Large pedestrian area in town centre. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Cheap ferry to Spain , runs like clockwork. A woman's delight for textiles. (sorry, for the sexist comment) Dreadful , one way, no entry, no left, no right turn system on some town centre areas. Pay to park on the street prolific in town. Some car parks free, but empty ! Near some lovely beaches.
Villa Real Dr Santo Antonio is nice enough town but mainly for older people or those looking to keep costs down - accommodation and eating out and drinking remarkably cheap - but there are better places on the Algarve.
A beautiful Portuguese town with plenty of pedestrian streets full of bars, cafes, and shops leading to a square. Lovely walks along the riverside looking over to Spain. The town is very flat so easy for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Historical town with elegant buildings reminiscent of a bygone era. Many interesting shops and plenty of cafes and restaurants. Gorgeous boulevard running parallel to the river. Short ferry crossing into Spain. Definitely worth a visit.
