Featuring indoor and outdoor swimming pools, Alentejo Marmoris Hotel & SPA is located in Vila Viçosa, known for its marble. The hotel’s Stone Spa by Karin Herzog provides relaxing treatments. One of the best hotel we visit with my wife and I have to say we travel a lot all over the world and this is almost in the middle of nowhere , Alentejo region is beautiful and Vila viçiosa a small town with great historical building including the hotel.
Formerly a convent, this hotel near the historical village of Vila Viçosa is set in lush, landscaped gardens. It has an outdoor swimming pool, a spacious terrace and a restaurant. Vila Viçosa is a delightful town, big enough to offer a great range of historic sites, various restaurants, and select accommodation, yet small enough to be quiet, easy to get around, and full of friendly welcoming people. The Pousada Convento is a first rate hotel in every respect - the charming, welcoming reception, the very friendly, helpful head waiter, the courteous, cheerful bar staff, and so on - and of course, the management. There was nothing they could or would not do to make our stay as perfect as possible. The hotel building is a converted convent, but done so in a first rate way, which is typical of the Pestana chain. Whilst retaining the historic aspects of the structure and layout, every modern convenience has been tastefully installed for guests to enjoy to the utmost. The room was very comfortable, light, airy, air-conditioned, with ample hanging and drawer space, a mini-bar, a safe, extremely comfortable arm chairs and desk, and satellite TV. The bed was also very comfortable, and, together with the (quiet) air-conditioning, getting a great night's sleep was guaranteed. Breakfast was taken in a room rear to the main dining room, but could be taken outside in the cloistered courtyard if so desired. Breakfast itself was buffet style, and served until 10:30, which is great customer service allowing those who need a little extra lie-in to still enjoy a heart meal. And what a choice of so many various delicious temptations was to be had! It could have been so easy to gorge oneself on the whole array of foods on offer; so, self-restraint is needed. We also took dinner one evening; the menu was again varied, serving local produce, expertly prepared. Even so, the chef did not mind altering a few dishes - meat from one dish on offer, salad from another, and vegetables from yet another - to create a personalised dinner just for us.
Herdade Ribeira de Borba is a working farm, offering rural tourism in a traditional countryside retreat. You can enjoy Montado’s beautiful scenery from the spacious terrace and 2 outdoor pools. Nice rooms, super friendly and helpful staff Amazing location
Palace was interesting but we didn’t know we had to visit by tour and it was not clear when the tours where happening and in what language so we were not able to get an English tour, the archeology museum at the castle was very good but it is not clear that there is no admittance to the castle after one hour before closing,
A quiet city, this is definitely low season yet there were a few visitors in the venues we visited. The ducal palace is worth a visit, the castle is very well kept. We found a nice little restaurant, Ouro Branco, which served great typical local food at reasonable prices.
Peaceful place, free concernts, cultural options, Castello and grounds are stunning, Ducal Palacio is worth a visit, need to check times of the english or french or Portuguese tours. Cloche or carraige museum was not open the day we visited despiite it being included on the ticket. Marble museum, Igreja Bartholomew, worth seeing also.
A quiet, very clean town, offering plenty of historic sites to visit - especially the Ducal Palace. Plenty of great restaurants to sample the local cuisine, all reasonably priced. Most of all, it is the perfect base to explore the further regional sites by car - whether historic or nature.
Vey pleasant country town with friendly people. Well placed to visit the wine region. Surprised they required 5 people minimum before they'd run a trip round the Ducal Palace guided in English and would only do that during mon - Fri.

We have been to several pousadas before and have mixed experiences. But this one was great in all respects. Beautiful property, excellent staff, terrific restaurant. Probably the only downside was that we had already been to the palace and the little town has not much else to offer. However the palace is worth the visit if you have never been and do some reading ahead (Portugese only tours). However well worth the visit.

This hotel had no problem accomodating our two medium sized labradoodles and the 5 euro / dog charge is reasonable. Very good breakfast, the restaurant was not open for dinner, but we found a convenient alternative down the street.
