A sprawling city that’s worth a day to explore. The old centre lacks any world class sights, but there’s enough to keep you interested. A lot of it was run down and being redeveloped and downright sketchy in places.
Best to stay outside the old town in one of the more modern areas that have eateries and bars. Use a hailing taxi service (Bolt or Uber). They are cheap.

I am planning to stay a few months here but after a week I can tell everyone that this city has a lot to offer, a lot of potential and I do recommend Asuncion . There is public transportation but I always used Bolt. that is like Uber, is safe, unexpensive and quick. There are no too many restaurants and cafeterias in the city center where I am staying, and for sure they need more supermarkets. Palm street is very nice specially during the weekend and holydays. All government buildings are in this area. It is a very old city and many buildings needs complete restauration. There is lot of policemen everywhere and they very polite and they help find any place you are looking for.

The people are nice and the food is good, but there’s really not much to see from a tourist perspective. I think parts of it had been destroyed as a result of wars. I did like the leafy streets in some sections of the city. Otherwise, the city is fairly non-descript.

Charming city to visit.
Charming city to visit. Not much to see unless you like strolling through shopping malls but you can do that back home but very unique place to visit. Nice that none of the tourist attractions charged an entry fee. People are very friendly. I recommend no more than a three day stay.

I had heard good things about Asuncion for livability, cost of living, accepting of expats and safety. I wanted to check it out and this trip gave me the opportunity. The location is very near the Argentine border and easy access. There is quite a large group of expats living there already.

This has got to be the most boring capital city in the world...
This has got to be the most boring capital city in the world. I include Cheyenne, Wyoming in this assessment. There is not much to do or see. Its very hard to find a decent restaurant anywhere and the people in the service industry all sit around and play on their phones rather than actually serve. You don't have to tip there, and you really don't ever feel the need to.

The hotel is highly recommended to anyone wishing to visit Asuncion. All the staff speak English and are very friendly and flexible. The rooms are really very clean, directly comparable to hotels in Europe. The pool and the view from the roof terrace are also beautiful and you have peace and quiet. The price-performance ratio is also excellent. I paid the bill for the hotel at reception and it was about the same price as advertised by Booking (about 50 francs more), which I think is great.

Everything was fabolous! A comfortable spa hotel. I asked hotel to arrange for us country trips - they kindly arranged for us contact with Asuncion City Tour, which was perfect, reliable, excellent service, our guide Mr. Shafler very knowledgable, communicative and intelligent. We were lucky to receive the best possible service in the hotel and during the trip. We recommend this hotel and this turist agency wholeheartedly to all travellers.
