Cheap hotel, great location. Great authentic soviet elevator with strange mechanical sticky buttons. Very kind personnel. It was pretty clean. Very good bed clothes.

The Soviet era style, combined with modern facilities is pretty awesome. The staff were super friendly and the breakfast is exceptionally good.

Ulyanovsk is a city that used to be a place of pilgrimage for communists. It has improved so much in the last 15 years that I cannot put it all into words. A stroll along the river at night is just like being on the coast, the river is that vast. Gonzo and Top Hop are 2 good and well priced places for food. Taxis, buses and trams are all very set up and cheap.
Ulyanovsk is a city on the cup. With friendly locals and a very calming atmosphere, it's a real hidden gem of Russia. Public transport is cheap and plentiful, with taxi apps it's easier still. I ate at a number of places and the one spot, Shipr, has good value and a modern USSR vibe. Sports.....if you like them, you'll love Ulyanovsk. Culture vultures will be surprised with the amount of events and talent on offer.
Second time here and I like it, not a very touristic city but that makes it intresting. I was there in 2016 and went back September 2018 so 2 years later and I saw that It was more vived. I saw much more students, different Ethnic origins, new shops and cool bars such as Records Music Pub & Top Hop. From Ulyanovsk you can also travel to Kazan and Bolgar which are worth seeing. Love the culture and the surroundings.
