Staying here was a delightful surprise. We were here twice, going to Gotland Island and returning. Our second stay, in a wheelchair-accessible room, was less inviting because of the industrial bathroom. But I understand why! Very modern, with AC and a fantastic breakfast. Easy parking too! Cute little town to walk around. Really appreciated the common fridge and food prep area!

A town with less population.

A town with less population. I recommend to stay near lake or within the forest, provided you have your own vehicle to commute. Most of the shops and restaurants are located in the center of the town.

Lonely Planet describes Oskarshamn as (paraphrasing) "...

Lonely Planet describes Oskarshamn as (paraphrasing) "pleasant enough, but not interesting". The main reason to come here us to take a ferry, after all. I got to spend more time here than planned thanks to a last-minute ferry cancellation; while Oskarshamn is not a bad place to be stuck in for a night, it's definitely not something to put on your bucket list. Notes: - Restaurant Cecil is decent - Adels Hotel is very close to the Gotland Ferry terminal and quite cheap; the fact there is very little personnel on-site makes for an odd experience, though. - Oskarshamn is pretty small and walkable, but somewhat hilly.

We used the town as a stopover on our way to Gotland.

We used the town as a stopover on our way to Gotland. It's a nice place, but we wouldn't spend a holiday there. We did, however, take a day trip to Kalmar (highly recommended).

We went to the Döderhult Museum and the Maritime Museum and Fredriksberg Manor. Everything is recommended. We ate at Som hemma outdoor seating and went to Nilsson's pastry shop. Recommended. We walked in the old quarters. Very nice.

Short distances to the center.

Short distances to the center. Cozy center with a mix of old and new. Nice view of the inlet from the sea. Nice restaurant out in the harbor. Quiet and small town feel. Very good and affordable hotel Room Oscar.

Everything you need is within walking distance.

Everything you need is within walking distance. Kupolen was a clean and very friendly place, we ate pizzas there. It was also a place where you could pay in cash (Kr), most shops only accepted card payments. Even ice cream or going to the toilet could not be paid in cash. So it is not worth changing money when traveling to Sweden.

I believe that this hotel is owned and run by a husband and wife team, both of whom were very charming and helpful. Excellent breakfast. Buffet style but, if you would like something cooked as well, eggs, bacon, etc, you only have to ask.
