Cute little cottage with perfect amount of space for a family of four to stay for a weekend. Well stocked kitchen, great outdoor space for playing. Varmdo is a district of 10 000 islands with few towns or villages to wander around or give a sense of place and culture. It has beautiful scenery, lakes, inlets, beaches, woods and farms which made it ideal for hiking and it would have been great for cycling as well as none of the inclines were too steep or too long. There are some beautiful nature reserves such as Bjorno and Sandarna which make the amazing bistro Bjorkvik a good place to pop in for food and drink. The boat services are generally good, but it's not easy to locate information about what is running and when - even Google struggled to find where the information was hidden and repeatedly gave best guesses! If you want to explore quaint villages, pop into shops, trip over a cute cafe for a snack or engage with locals, then Varmdo is not the place for you. If you want to explore nature, hardly see a soul, wild swim, trek through forests past ancient burial mounds and occasionally see people fishing or sailing in the lakes, then add the district to your plans.Guest review byMatthewUnited Kingdom

The access to using their bicycles and being able to cycle to the ferry and then to the other islands (Vaxholm) was really great. The staff were so kind and accommodating - organising us on the bicycles, suggesting day excursions, booking kayaking for us. It has two rooms with double beds and one small common area with a double sofa bed in the lower level. The bathroom is in the main living room upstairs. The cottage has a clean and equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook simple meals (there is a stove, an over, pans and pots, a water boiler and a very good coffee machine).
