A Fairytale Place

Rightly described as “the most relaxing destination in Europe,” with “mirror-still water, a serene alpine setting, and fairytale-like scenery.” The lake, the island, the town itself, the views of the Julian Alps, the proximity to other places, the atmosphere, the culture, the cuisine (and options) all contribute to a holiday experience that is nothing short of magical. We have visited Bled several times and even brought a group of 75 people to Bled. It remains among our favorite places in all of Europe.

Bled lives up to its rep as a beautiful spot, but there are a lot of tourists. Try to stay further down the lake than the end with all the big hotels. Good hiking and vibe in the off season (Oct/Nov.)

We enjoyed walking around the lake in the morning with a visit to Bled Castle in the afternoon. Next day we spent 3 hours at the spectacular Vintgar Gorge and would recommend all these activities to visitors. With more time we could have done more hiking in the lake area and spent some time on the lake itself.

We were gifted with good weather and it allowed us to make use of the area. If we were there for a week of rain it would fast become very dreary.
Prices were about the same as UK .Nearly everyone speaks English which helped as I can`t even pronounce any Slovenian.
Watch out for the boat to the island .....you pay for both ways :(

Bled castle is well worth the climb.
Bled castle is well worth the climb. The exhibitions are interesting and the view from the castle is truly spectacular. The souvenir shop sells a great variety of items.
We tried local food at restaurant Gostilna Pri Planincu and it was one of the tastiest dishes we ever ad!
We used the parking near the castle next to Atletski stadion and it was good value. Nearby Bled the Vintgar gorge is a must see, but the trek back to the shuttle parking was much longer than originally expected. Recommended to bring waterproof shoes and bags.

We arrived at the beginning of October after the peak season, so some water activities were not available which did not bother us as we went for the walks and scenery. If you are in Slovenia a few days in Bled are a must.

We stayed at Hotel Lovec for a week last year and had such a great time in Lake Bled and Slovenia that we booked again. The hotel is great - fantastic breakfast, friendly and helpful staff and a nice pool. One morning they had run out of hot chocolate for breakfast and they offered to go and get some for the children. The front desk was also really helpful with my elderly mother. Would highly recommend, it is a great place to base yourself.

Beautiful old fashioned hotel in the centre of Bled, lovely lounge on the ground floor overlooking the lake. There is a spa, thermal pool and outdoor area for sunbathing and swimming in the lake. we had a junior suite with a lake view so the room was large and covered balcony was perfect. Staff were lovely
