This small private hotel is very nice: the living room is very spacious, we had our private kitchen with all the required kitchenware, and the location is quiet and beautiful; the whole premises were clean and tidy. Overall the apartment was made with love and care: nice pictures and hand-made embroideries on the walls and a few live plants. There is a very beautiful backyard, very green and cozy: we did not use it but the view from the window was great. Eva, the hostess, was friendly and helpful. It's possible to leave the luggage for several hours on the checkout date (although the day turned to be rainy and we agreed for a reasonable price to stay longer in the room).

Staying in this cottage was the highlight of our trip. It was in the most beautiful, peaceful location and the children loved exploring outside. It was right across from hiking paths and the staff who met us gave us some excellent tips about which hikes to do and at what time. The cottage was spacious with excellent kitchen and cooking facilities.

Location, view, very clean, great host!
My 3rd time in High Tatra' and decided to stay for a month this time and loving it! Too many peeks to climb 😉. Very well marked trails with beautiful nature. Plenty of high peeks to climb although for some certified guide is required. And don't be fooled that the highest peeks are not as high as in the alps...it is very hard work and training is required to be able to climb them. Definitely a contender to Alps
Beautiful area especially in early June (15-30) when it's not overrun by tourists. Great for families and larger groups with many activities for each generation. Recommended visits: spa treatment at the Grand Hotels at Kempinski, Grand Hotel, and Hotel Lominca; hiking or taking a cable car to the 'plesa'--mountain lakes.
If you are into challenging hiking this is the place to be. There is skiing in winter, but we were there in summer and loved it. Be prepared for the language barrier: English is not much understood, probably better if you speak German. Luckily staff at the cableways and important tourist sites do speak English.
Most stunning mountain range of the country, with rocky peaks and glacial lakes, breathtaking alpine-style landscapes, however also the most touristy region. After a windstorm of 2004 hesitantly transitioning from spruce plantation (that the locals are used to for a century) to the real mixed resilient forest. A perceptible tug-o-war between developers (skiing facilities, sterile grey hotels) and those wishing to preserve the original wilderness for less-heavy sort of tourism. Nice wooden chalets, although often with socialist era habits and attitudes of the staff. Quite lacking in cozy individual huts. Slightly underwhelming transport (too infrequent) and missing more historical vehicles (trams, trains, ...). All a bit utilitarian and sterile, without added charm. Particularly a lack of non-template cafes with some charm is astonishing. Sometimes absurdly high prices for the accommodation and food, inadequate to the generally lacking I-can-help-you-with-that-attitude among locals, sour faces and snapping. I appreciate that many facilities have started making their own food (not just microwaving pre-made industrial meals, the nemesis of Slovak tourism), even if the choice is often too much meat/flour/potatoes (i.e. Slovak taste) which may be difficult for many western visitors. It got better, with quite some way to improve - if there was a will for it. I recommend all the nature hikes, particularly to the higher altitudes, peaks, tarns. Tasting different chalet teas. Visiting Podbanske spa, or Hotel Atrium spa. The Poprad & Besenova spas are overcrowded with local and Polish families with children. Slovakia unfortunately does not have proper sauna/spa culture in blood, these are often just mechanical imitations of western facilities.
Really nice mountains with great access by train, everything is in relatively short distance. Really nice small villages such as Stary Smokovec, Tatranska Lomnica. Easy hikes with kids on Strbske Pleso, Popradske pleso and Hrebienok and other beautiful places such as Zelene pleso, Skalnate pleso etc.
High Tatras are a must-visit destination if you are in Slovakia. It´s Slovakias biggest mountains. You can visit Tatras all year-round. You can go skiing here, hiking, biking or just to relax and visit one of the best spa / wellness centers in Slovakia. However you need to be prepared that this is also a well known tourist destination so you will meet here lot´s of people all year round because of good conditions (most people come here in summer so if you avoid a typical summer holiday time you can enjoy this beautiful destination even more..)
