The streets are extremely hilly so comfy walking shoes a must it is very beautiful but 2/3 day stay here is plentiful and to move on see some more beautiful Italy, there is a shuttle bus from San marino that you can buy tickets that leaves approx every 1hr 15mins and brings you to Rimini so you can look around there or catch a train from there to were you like its really very easy to buy from self service machines in any language.
Visit San Marino was a dream plan for us. We rent a car to rich San Marino from Florence. We had only one night reserved for San Marino. This place is unique. I plan to come back one day to stay longer and enjoy the beauty of this place.
San Marino itself is an amazing place to visit. All the historical buildings, steep winding streets of vendors continuing for ages until you reach the top castle embattlements. And you can pick another route down passing more vendors along the way, everything from high end fashion and jewelry to weapons shops. As an Australian, I was shocked that all these guns, knives, machetes, flick knives, spears, high powered bows, arrows, sling shots, crossbows etc. were for open sale. Our laws prevent such sale of deadly weapons but each to their own.
Walking up Mount Titan and visiting the towers was great - a nice escape into a wooded area on a hot day. The old historic centre was lovely, and there appeared to be a couple of good restaurants up there. But otherwise, once you leave the historic centre, but are still up on the hill, it was difficult to find a decent restaurant for dinner that served more than just burgers or sandwiches. I would suggest that San Marino is nice to visit for a couple of hours, explore the historic centre, maybe do some tax-free shopping, but it doesn't require an overnight stay.
San Marino, the capitol and old town of the San Marino republic, located on the top of Monte Titano, is a fantastic and tremendously scenic place. In my opinion there are many beautiful and interesting things to see and learn more about just walking around in the old town and visiting the three towers. In addition to the wonderful scenery and the historical sensation, there are numerous museums, shops or restaurants to visit. definitely quite a nice place to go for a short stay. The only thing I didn't appreciate that much and that I found didn't really fit in this specific environment was the commercial approach with plenty of shops and stalls trying to sell various gadgets and thingies. But ok, everything can't be completely genuine and all that perfect.
After the crowdedness of other European cities San Marino was a haven. This is probably because there is no airport or train station and you really need a car to get there. The mountain and old town are Unesco heritage protected and the views are stunning. We loved visiting the three towers and the Public Palace. Unique boutiques with quality products ( shopping is tax free) and there are some great buys to be had particularly Italian leather bags and jewellery. A picturesque and charming place.
